Eerily, the Kelly Lake highway cam is frozen in time at 12:09 Sunday morning, about 20 minutes before the power went out. It gives a good window on the weather conditions just before the crash errr.... hard landing.

This article is almost a month old but anyway, apparently a big new Irving gas station with a (presumably fast-food) restaurant and another standalone (presumably fast-food) restaurant are going in around the site of the old Petro-Canada.

Also, the new exit road is under construction; it's all supposed to be open by the Fall.

Not sure if it was noted but Delta is not leaving YHZ. They have transferred their flights from LGA (LaGuardia) to their major hub at JFK - this will provide better connections to their international network.

Federal funding approved for Aerotech Treatment Plant :

"In December 2014 Infrastructure Canada announced provisional approval for the Aerotech Wastewater Treatment Plant and requested a detailed business case as the second stage of the approval process.
This information was sent and on June 18, 2015 the project received approval in principle. A contribution agreement is now being finalized and funding will flow in time for construction to begin in May 2016. The $21 million Aerotech project will receive $7 million each from the federal and provincial governments.
Upgrading the Aerotech facility has been a major priority for Halifax Water, as the current facility is at capacity. Expansion of the Airport and the Aerotech Business Park cannot proceed until the facility is expanded, making this a vital upgrade to support economic development in the area. Increased wastewater treatment capacity will enable Halifax Regional Municipality to initiate the zoning change to expand Aerotech’s uses to a broader range of commercial and industrial uses. The Aerotech project is the most expensive of the water and wastewater projects to be submitted to the Building Canada Fund, and receiving federal and provincial funding will relieve pressure on Halifax Water’s ratepayer-funded capital costs. The one thing I'd like to see change over time is the 'size' of the space from gate 18 to 30 on the domestic side. The additions done towards the commuter area make the space feel really open and roomy. But the area from 18-30 feels quite cramped. I realize behind the walls as you walk towards gate 30 (on the left) is offices/the US pre-clearance etc. But surely there is a way to move that stuff? I hope that the new office building they plan can cause the offices to re-locate and allow the US area to move to open the space up.

I will say that seating area where the doors to gates 26/27/28 area on the domestic side is nice and roomy. It's that 'middle space' between gates 18 and 24 that is cramped.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/business/newleaf-airline-discount-1.3391546

NewLeaf, a new Winnipeg-based airline, is starting service to Halifax and a handful of other Canadian cities next month. Just checked their prices - Halifax - Hamilton is more than $100 cheaper than (ie slightly less than half the price of) Halifax - Toronto City on Porter for the days I checked.

I heard on the news last night that there will be 2 more starting up this year, though they didn't mention whether Halifax would be one of their stops.

I have to make 2 or 3 trips to TO this year, so the $99 (plus extras) ticket is appealing. Even with the nickle and dime charges (every piece of luggage, including carry on is charged) and fewer frills, $300 round trip looks a lot better than the 4-500 I'll be paying otherwise.

But how much will transportation from Hamilton into Toronto cost?

This just flies into Hamilton, correct?

Yeah. But on the other hand, it might be MORE cost effective if your ultimate destination is the western GTA, or Niagara or something like that...

Between local transit and GO, about $40 to get to downtown Toronto from Hamilton and back. Local bus to GO station, $12 each way from Hamilton to TO.

I much prefer flying into Billy Bishop on Toronto Island. You can fly there from the GMIA either on Porter or Air Canada. I'm sure HSIA is similar. You can walk (or take the free shuttle) from Billy Bishop to the downtown core in Toronto. It's a lot easier than going through Pearson (or Hamilton).

Sometimes it isn't worth the hassle to save a few bucks........

One other thing to keep in mind is that the other carriers will cut prices on competitive routes to try to put these guys out of business, so you will see bargains on AC and Westjet for a while.

Not much. GO train is about $10 each way IIRC (based on other lines)
