^^ I wonder if the plan is to decommission the arena and reuse/replace the Pan Am Clinic building once they have moved out. I would suspect either way the infrastructure would heavily focus on the west end of the green space where there is a large surface lot.

Not sure how old the arena is but it may pay from an energy efficiency cost to knock it down and combine it with the new library that is being specified in the city RFP.

I am sure with better insulation, a new ICE plant and LED lighting it would be less costly to operate than the existing one.

I'm curious if a possible replacement of the pool is part of this, I'd love to see a brand new state-of-the-art facility... pool, arena, library, gym, etc. I know there had been talks already to move the football field closer to the arena as the city wanted to put something where the current football field is. The map shows the field is owned by WSD but I'm sure they'd be thrilled to make a deal for a new field. They've been pouring money into it for years cuz the irrigation/drainage is inadequate but they won't properly fix it.

Wasn't there more drainage work done there this year by the city? I vaguely recall seeing a tender for that this spring.

They've been doing piecemeal work on it for 10 years, but it seriously needs to be completely ripped up and replaced with a new state-of-the-art drainage system.

Honestly with the amount of usage that field gets I'd like to see the city put in a turf football/soccer field there with lights as there isn't a public one anywhere in the area. Later games in the fall usually have to go to East Side field.

The Pan Am Clinic has been expanded/renovated, albeit some time ago. I don't see this as a likely outcome.

The parkade expansion was always first on the agenda, The new build, moving of offices seems the way it will progress. The demolition of the old building is still a question mark.

The Pan Am building will continue to be operated by the WRHA as a medical facility. It may not be called Pan Am anymore.

^ Great photo! I'm impressed that the developer got that project off the ground, although it would have looked even cooler with a couple more levels.

pretty amazing that 70% of the housing starts in Winnipeg this year are multi-family.

Just give it a few years - if those ramshackle houses are still there, they will be wishing for high rises so developers will pay them more than just chump change for the land.

Maybe the complex is being built in a way to accommodate future upward expansion?

^ Don't believe that was ever the case. It's circular wood framing was always a challenge..but the result, even at a 2 storey raised level does stand out. I'm curious about how the exterior cladding that has been pictured in so many renders of the project will turn out?
