Turner Field to be sold to Georgia State and developer Carter

http://m.ajc.com/news/news/local/turner-field-to-be-sold-to-georgia-state-and-devel/nppZC/

Quote:
Turner Field is going to be sold to Atlanta-based real estate firm Carter and Georgia State University.

The Atlanta Fulton County Recreation Authority board announced Monday that the Carter and Georgia State team has been chosen as the winning bidder for Turner Field. The board will begin immediately negotiating a sale of the downtown baseball stadium and much of the surrounding parking lots, a news release said.

The announcement comes just a little more than two months after the agency put the ballpark up for sale through a competitive bid process, and about two years after the Atlanta Braves announced their plans to move to a new ballpark in Cobb County.

I hope the area attracts a new twenty four hour Dunkin Donuts like the one near Emory University. Students are there all night studying.

Rendering: Plans for Memorial Drive Redevelopment

Paces Properties just filed plans to build Larkin on Memorial. Formerly a Habitat for Humanity facility, the $9.6 million, 63,000-square-foot mixed-use project will sit across the street from Oakland Cemetery. The project's tagline, "Main Street in Your Backyard," is envisioned as a sort of throwback community shopping center. Filings include Buildings A through E that will house restaurants, retail, and office use at a projected cost of $6,875,000, with an additional estimate $2,725,000 spent on miscellaneous site work.

Paces says the project's goal is to serve the day-to-day needs of people in Eastside neighborhoods of Grant Park, Ormwood Park, Cabbagetown, Reynoldstown, and East Atlanta.

I noticed these two new projects on the CAP website.

The Hype - Gartrell Street
310 new apartments, across from Selena Butler Park and the planned City of Atlanta MLK Natatorium

Fairfield Residential "Grant Park" - 290 MLK Jr. Dr
321 units, four-story development, with an element of workforce and student housing. They've already filed permits and Curbed has a story on this one.

Really confused at the rendering....is the surface parking spots going to be between the office building and the residential building next to it?

It is confusing. This rendering does not show a parking lot or road.

Edit:
The curbed article says this one will be very similar to one Hines did in Minneapolis. If you look closely at the second photo, I think they just dropped part of the Atlantic Station background into the Minneapolis rendering, including the parking lot in front and bridges in the back.

I think you can safely ignore that rendering... it's completely nonsensical. I thought their M. C. Escher overhead view was bad, but they've topped themselves. It's not even on the correct lot (it's where Target is today).

First look: Pollack Shores' 14th Street project

https://www.bisnow.com/atlanta/news/multifamily/exclusive-look-pollack-shores-14th-st-project-54352

Quote:
Here's an exclusive first look at Pollack Shores plans for the former Bobby & June's Kountry Kitchen site in Midtown. As Bisnow first reported, the prolific multifamily developer filed a rezoning plan with the City of Atlanta to transform the retail parcel into a mixed-use project. Pollack Shores' Tyler Gaines tells us the firm is eyeing a 275-unit apartment project with 10k SF of retail at 375 14th St, with the existing Jimmy John's relocated to the new project.

That's interesting, it looks like the entire block will be developed, including the existing shopping center.

State Judicial Complex Near Capitol

http://www.atlantamagazine.com/news-cult...ensive-georgia-government-building-ever/

Quote:
If Gov. Nathan Deal has his way, Georgia’s judicial branch will be bigger and better funded when he leaves office in January 2019. He recently expanded the state Court of Appeals from 12 to 15 judges, and now wants to add two more justices to the Georgia Supreme Court. But his biggest gift to the state’s highest courts could come in the form of a new building slated to be among priciest construction projects in the state’s history. Brand-new renderings reveal what the structure might look like.

After considering five finalists, the Georgia Building Authority selected a proposal from architects Stevens & Wilkinson—an Atlanta-based firm that recently completed Liberty Plaza on the east side of the state capital—and Robert A. M. Stern, a New York-based group that designed the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta

Some of the other proposals that were submitted

The former candy factory/store on North Ave in O4W was razed at some point this week. Was there a project slated for that lot?

Love it. I wonder if there are future plans to develop the Ponce end of the Kroger parking lot with apartments or something. Seems weird they would keep that sea of surface parking between the Kroger and Ponce when they are about to build 900 underground spaces

The City I believe razed it and they don't have plans at this time for it that they've announced. Maybe they will rfp it for redevelopment at some point.

New Rendering of Peachtree Battle tower

Plans call for a 251-unit tower to rise on 1.8 acres currently occupied by a Burger King, Design Within Reach and an antique store housed in an old book bindery.
