One thing I wish cities didn't do was put busy arterial roads right along the rivers like that. It makes the pedestrian experience so much less pleasant. If the strip of greenery were a bit wider or the trees more consistent would help a lot (this is more directed at Ottawa, but those Calgary shots reminded me of it).

One could wish for this all they want but considering how villages grow into towns and then cities, I would think that back fifth or a hundred or more years no one was thinking about the pedestrian experience. As time moved along and the automobile came into being, it probably seemed natural to build what would become future arterial roadways right where the horse or wagon paths were. Communities grew up along side of these paths/roads and to now move an arterial roadway through a community would prove to be very expensive.

Foresight, such a wonderful thing that most people were and probably still blind to and not deliberately either - you only know what you know.

Good thing about this one is there are about 20 - 25 active tower proposals in the foreground alone between East Village and East Downtown Commercial Core, almost all from reputable developers - Great Gulf, Bosa, Fram & Slokker etc. This excludes the Beltline and Eau-Claire which have just as much in planning.

I think that is the most incredible shot of Vancouver I've ever seen.

The Vancouver skyline is simply amazing. My favourite in the country, hands down.

I do wonder what it will look like when the density spreads off the peninsula.

It's happening. The main areas off of the peninsula that are seeing the most new density are the Olympic Village and Main/Kingsway. It'll become an unbroken, dense chunk that will connect to the peninsula in about 5 years or so.

The density has spread off the peninsula. Just in the form of mid rise and low rise. The neighbourhoods along Broadway are in the 30 000 per sq mile range, and increasing, especially in Mt. Pleasnt.
