The lot adjacent was purchased by the Emily Griffith school, where they plan an apartment tower.

Concrete parking garages are heavier on a per column basis than just about any other type of building, so not that surprising to have deep caissons.

RyanD said its not a precast concrete garage, so the crane may just be there to lift formwork, rebar, and the concrete pump into place. Otherwise, there really is no reason for a tower crane on a parking garage, because you can drive or carry your equipment and materials up as you finish the ramps and new levels.

And if it were precast, I have never seen a tower type crane used with enough lifting capacity to lift those very heavy concrete pieces. Doesn't mean they aren't out there, I have just never heard of it before (and I have worked on quite a few precast garage projects). Guess we'll find out soon enough!

No plans or permits have been submitted or issued for a second tower. Only a parking garage.

You're a victim of recreational marijuana- the marbles have been lost.

I believe they won the whole eastern half-block. They're planning on keeping the garage where it is and developing the southeast lot.

Correct, Emily Griffith owns the parking garage and the two empty lots on the Trinity Church block.

EDIT: I think Zocalo is the one who will be developing the Apt. Building, which as Dirt said is planned for the SE corner of that block.

EDIT EDIT: From this article http://www.denverpost.com/business/ci_28...on-zocalo-plan-affordable-housing-retail, it said that the existing Emily Griffith school at 13th and Welton will eventually be sold off....but they also say it is "historic".

While that is a cool old building, I didn't think it is historic?

That's for people in West Highlands to decide.

Was at 16th and Tremont the other day looking down Tremont toward that church. Imagine having huge commercial building wrapping around the church a la 1999 Broadway. The view down Tremont would be so badass with the illusion of big city density.

The rumor with Block 162 is that they've been courting Anadarko Petroleum to take a significant chunk of the office space. With oil prices hovering near $30 I wonder if that will delay the start of this one?

Ah, OK, so does not have historic designation yet (which the parcel also shows), but they are seeking it. This is one building (at least the Welton St. fronting one) that appears to be a good candidate for historic designation depending on the condition of the interior. Maybe the facade could be salvaged at least on the Welton side, there is nothing significant or unique about the Glenarm side.

Does anyone know if the city plans on updating the zoning to any of the developed land that's still using the old code? How long is that going to stick around? Most of Stapleton and Lowry, along with a million parcels all over the place are still using the old code. I assume that this was done because the land was being actively redeveloped during the zoning code change but, I would think there would be an ultimate sunset on the old code.

Interesting and I've heard that the Saudis have again flooded the market with super cheap oil in attempt to put the frackers out of business..

US production will remain steady through the end of 2017, and then who knows what will happen. This means $30 oil per barrel for the next 2 years and some of the smaller Oil & Gas producers will suffer but, 2018 is when shit will hit the fan and even the Anadarkos won't be safe. Who knows what will happen geopolitically, too. Iraq is actually increasing production. The new Venezuelan regime may also be a wildcard.
