At any rate, related to an earlier question you'd raised regarding any potential political 'connectedness' of the developer of this proposed (apparently quite attractive) HPA tower perhaps changing the city's 'calculus' in that area, per Crain's the developer is Vahooman “Shadow” Mirkhaef.

I'll only say that just by name alone, he doesn't exactly sound 'unconnected'.....

I think the IBEW was looking to move eventually. IIRC, there is a nice facade hidden behind that crap.

The union is considering leaving its home at 600 W. Washington Blvd. and is considering several locations, including the former Drake building at 2722 S. Martin Luther King Blvd.

She said the sale of the building could close as early as the first quarter of 2016 depending on what bids are received.

She said the union is the first group to actively seek a meeting with the alderman about buying the space after touring the building.

Depending on the interior, could be a good candidate fir landmarking. It was originally a cable car traction house, then a substation for electric streetcars when they came.

Seems like developers are really scaling back the parking since I started following this stuff just a couple years ago. I know it's in large part because of the TOD ordinances, but it also seems to be part of a paradigm shift in Chicago, finally overcoming the assumption that you need a car to live here (and not just for 20-somethings).

The Chicago developers who have been around longer seem to be the ones clinging to the huge parking garages – Fifield, Smithfield, Beitler, etc. Probably hard to imagine after a few decades of being told parking was a necessity to land leases/condo sales.

I've heard that it is more or less assumed to be in line for landmarking at this point. It's actually in very original condition for a structure of it's age and varying uses over time.

This shot says it all right now, cranes everywhere in River North. Both 400 W Huron and 905 N Orleans need to be moved to Under construction on page 1 already.

Here's a summary of the existing and incoming bounty of cranes for this area:

347 W Chestnut (Next) - Currently standing
833 N Clark - Currently Standing

No 9 Walton - Installation Imminent
905 N Orleans - Installation Imminent
400 W Huron - Installation Imminent

640 N Wells (Debevics) - Financed, Installation after Demo/Foundations
Viceroy (Cedar Hotel) - Financed, Installation after Demo/Foundations

There are SEVEN towers currently under construction that will have cranes up within a month or two or already have them up. There are FIVE more that are in varying stages of demo/site prep. This is all just between Ontario, Michigan, Division and the Kennedy. This part of town is going to make what's been happening in the West loop and Fulton River District look tame.
