Frankly, I think the award would be more relevant if it did not include properties that have not been completed. Who knows how this building might perform post-completion?

I'm guessing you missed the "Future Project" part of the category.

No, actually, I was acutely aware of the category.

I find the concept of granting awards to un-built projects carries too much hubris (in this case, self-confidence) that the final product will actually perform as promised. I'd rather see awards for buildings post-completion that awards execution-as-promised. How many supposedly great buildings have ultimately been money pits, or perform poorly because of design shortcomings?

Me too, was wondering why they have a handhold on the inside though, surely these guys don't hold onto the railings while going up or down the pit staircase?

I think it's code. And if you trip and you need something to grab onto so you don't fall yeah they are very handy to have and used often!

That makes sense, I didn't think of that before.

In the last pic top left corner, is that a sample of the window/glazing that will be on the tower?

Good catch! I went back through some of my pics and cropped these to have a closer look. The second pic is looking down on the back of that little structure. My guess is yes, that they might be samples.

I think the 'Mustard' is the gold metal paneling that has been featured on sales materials.

I think this will have a lot of gold silver and bronze metallic accents, should look sharp.

Eeek is right.

Not for the colours, but the materials. I thought the cladding would have copper-coloured metal panels.

There looks to be a copper coloured panel - but in spandrel glass (2nd from the right) as it looks reflective.
The mustard panel and the two to the right of it (taupe and gray?) may be metal panel rather than spandrel glass, but it's hard to tell.

Is this another Telus Garden in the making (with metal panel replaced by spandrel glass?)

If that's the case the city has to really step in and stop this bait and switch. And not allow developers use "cost engineering" as an excuse. They know damn well how much it costs from the beginning. When they change materials such as Telus it does fundamentally changed what was originally approved

Highly doubtful. This isn't a midmarket product, so cheap materials here would be quite shocking.

Also, if you look at the reflection in the panels immediately to the left and right of the three "bronze silver and gold" panels it seems pretty clear to me the three are metal, not glass, given the lack of reflection.

Is it normal to have that many different types/colors of cladding on a building? I count 14 separate panels/glass. Assuming they are all different, this seems like quite a few different elements. In my opinion.

It could be samples of different materials/tint of the possible options they are considering

Westbank posted a picture on their instagram page which showed a close up of those panel samples - looks like those middle panels are indeed metal.

Thanks!

Good to see - and it looks a lot more copper-coloured than in the other shot.

I wonder if there is copper-coloured spandrel, too?
