cohesive or not, prototypical exemplar of some architectural style or not, could be the greatest thing on earth since cold beer or not, Mississauga's City Hall, to my eyes, is extremely Ugly.

We've had a couple Fatburger locations in Metro Vancouver for as long as I can remember, so it's not that, it's that we got one specifically in my suburb which likes to think of itself as a quaint, isolated village, which its not. I do remember Five Guys and Carl's Jr. both opening their first locations (both downtown) though, and it made the newspapers and everything

Chipotle too. Out of foreign chains opening, fast food seems to be right up there with fashion.

Gatineau went semi-apeshit when we got our Simons store, for the record.

We kind of have a thing over not being acknowledged as a major city in our own province.

About 1 in every 20 houses or so in my neighbourhood has one of these in the winter. And we are a new area where everyone has their own garage too. (Though it is usually a single and not a double.) Note that of the 3 or 4 people I know who have one, all are ex-Montrealers.

Some more affluent cities have banned them, but seriously this should be banned province-wide... What an eyesore.

They're very unattractive, but I suspect quite useful. I've had to shovel a driveway and de-ice an uncovered vehicle many times and I have to wonder if it isn't actually worth the hideousity to avoid.

My municipality in the Waste Island always banned them. The next door, less affluent municipality did not ban them.

You always knew where you were.

One thing I really hate and that seems to be a Quebec thing are these types of temporary cement blocks:

You either have these with the metal handles or some that are "tongue and groove" and fit into one another.

You see these mostly on vacant lots (so people won't drive trucks onto them and dump shit I suppose) and also sometimes to delineate an actual business' property, like a used car lot (so people can't steal cars by just driving them away).

They usually feature chipped cement and rusty metal handles and of course the cement is often rust-stained from the metal.

Especially common on inner suburban-style boulevards like Maloney in Gatineau or Pie-IX north in Montreal.

You also see them on the properties of rural businesses in the countryside.

They make me wanna barf when I go to a nice restaurant, a nordic spa or a charming auberge, and the parking lot for some reason is delineated by these ugly buggers. It spoils everything.

I mean, what are they thinking?

Sounds Londonesque. At least we used to compare favorably to K-W-C, but the momentum has shifted to the latter, partly due to proximity to the centre of the universe, as well as the rise of the tech industry.

It could be worse. St. Catherines is almost a non-entity, despite being considerably larger than Windsor (which I feel gets much more press than St Catherines...you never hear about St. Catherines....even much smaller Kingston, Guelph and Sudbury get more coverage).

I remember those from my Quebec days.

This cancer that has overwhelmed London. Fugly temporary/rentable signage:

I don't remember seeing them in Montreal. I was shocked at how ubiquitous they are in London. Beyond ugly.

Ontario also has a thing for traffic pylons. The MTO never misses an opportunity to display these fuglies. They actually enjoy putting them out for no apparent reason. I fucking hate them.
