I haven't seen the rebuilt TD Tower in person but based on all the pictures that I have seen, it has gone from the ugly duckling to the beautiful swan.
I doubt that the upset has much to do with the suspension of their plans for the RBC building. More likely is that they realize that a lot of new office space is going to become available downtown, and this may put downward pressure on rents.
They moved back to Europe (Luxembourg I believe) to focus on some of their developments there, and their home in Halifax is on the market.
I suspect the upset over the Nova Centre was indeed because they felt it was given preferential treatment, and its office space would be available before 22nd Commerce Square and therefore would win out on any competition for big tenants. The probably wanted to be first across the finish line and win those tenants themselves. I can kind of understand their concern, but that's business...

also look at the space companies currently occupy, vs what they are occupying in new premises. Workplaces are getting smaller and people are now working from home, reducing the Square footage requirements.
the thiels are basically loosing their tenants, because they have no new building stock for them to move into. BMO certainly wouldn't go to a TD branded building, and rbc went to waterside. the banks want new, not old and tired, especially when they are paying top rates.
The new expanded TD Tower looks great, possibly the best looking office tower in Halifax IMHO (other than the art deco Dominion Public Building). For some reason it reminds me of the buildings going up in Vancouver (style-wise) albeit smaller in scale. This one is a winner and fairly pleasant at street level. I really appreciate the ''historical'' integration on Granville street also. The nicest tower in Toronto is the Scotia Plaza and the nicest tower in Halifax is the TD Tower, funny...

It is good to see that the store fronts are not just facades but will actually be leased out for retail/commerce. I had the impression that these were just mechanical rooms (but I was wrong).
