La Roca means "the rock" I don't get that reference. Why not El Rojo?
This looks like they may have bought out the Pink Taco chain... everything looks exactly the same except for the name. They used to be in Scottsdale, LA, and I think Vegas. Went bankrupt during the recession... pretty sweet that it's coming here.

I had previously heard about plans for a Brown's Social House to go into the same complex as the Alt Hotel. However, the signs advertising Brown's seem to have been removed. Has the deal fallen through?

As far as I know it's still happening, I work in that building. They've already started working.

The List is hoping to open mid-late November now. They had a few setbacks.

The bar going in the space Ragpickers used to occupy. They received one of the Exchange storefront grants and really fixed up the outside of the building, looks great. I've seen some pieces (ie: custom light fixtures) that look really cool for the inside.

It's gonna be like a laid back resto-bar, will have more of a club-type atmosphere fri/sat from what I hear.

That was the sign they put up when they reopened this spring. Unless they reopened for a third time, but I think it's done.

Also, Brown's Centrepoint is aiming to open in April.

Lots of new openings of little places in the last little while, the liquor law changes are starting to pay off now.

- The Roost on Corydon is an amazing little ~25 seat cocktail lounge on Corydon (big rooftop patio in summer too)

- Sous Soul, French restaurant where La Bamba used to be behind Osborne, small place that's only open Fri/Sat (bizarre) but I've heard great things.

- Blind Tiger, where 7 1/4 used to be on South Osborne. It's a coffee shop during the day, but behind the coffee shop is a hidden restaurant/speakeasy that you pull on a coat rack to open the door. All french cuisine with great wine and cocktail list.

It really is awesome how many of these smaller places are starting to pop up. Looks like I'm gonna have to try them all before I take off this winter

Checked out Sous Sol a few weekends ago on a Friday, thought it was a pretty cool spot. My gf is working at Blind Tiger, and I look forward to finally checking it out.

New breakfast spot to open in the Exchange:

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/s...change-district-breakfast-spot-1.3315428

"The owners of Segovia are opening a breakfast spot in the Exchange District early next year.

The restaurant, which will be called Clementine, is set to open in the basement of 123 Princess St. in February."

Great idea... I don't think there are any breakfast places in the Exchange, are there? It's actually kind of surprising that Stella's hasn't staked a claim for a location, although I guess siting might be an issue.

With Segovia's owners behind it, I'm sure people will be lining up to get in right off the hop.

There's that place on Main St. Parlour? I see people in there on my morning bus rides. Not sure exactly what they do in there, might just be a coffee shop.

(good) Hipster coffee. I don't think they serve food other than small baked goods.

Between RRC's campus and the redevelopment of the Union Bank Building, thus all of the students and professors in the area, it is rather shameful that there are not more cafes and shops in the area.

When RRC developed the Princess Street campus, I truly thought this:

would become similar to this:
