Fantastic, but even that is a little high, but yeah sub 2K a month rentals are important in maintaining a diverse population downtown. I wish a developer would be bold enough to do sub 1K micro apartments further north, really mix things up.

I think the LG proposal for Printers Row included micro-apartments that were significantly less than 2k, maybe $1,200?

why do sub 1k micro apartments when you can just do sub 2k micro apartments?

Almost everyone I know, who is single, and has a decent job, is looking to spend no more than $900 a month on rent. Is this low? Apparently it is. But they either have to get a roommate or move further out of the city to find something. I like that this developer isn't aiming for "luxury' rentals, but I think there is room for variety in our housing options, which in turn leads to a non-homogeneous variety of city dwellers, which I happen to think is important.

After years of fighting over a 40 story building, here's what we'll end up with

1320 N LSD - 60 luxury apartments

Tiny rendering from DK, but doesn't look too promising

Really? That's pretty low. Of all my single friends I've helped find new places, the lowest on average is something like $1300/month and there's been many others who will go over $2000/month.

Both of our examples are anecdotal and OT.

rental prices and market value are highly divorced these days.

The scrap metal yard across the river from the A. Finkl & Sons site is shutting down and they are listing the site as "poised for redevelopment". It's a shame that more industrial sites are leaving the area, but it would be great to see a nice TOD development and it's close to the Clybourn Metra stop.

This doesn't seem like a loss really. The DNA article says that a grand total of 6 (yes SIX) people were employed at this site. The scrap metal company seems like a huge waste of land, glad to see this happen.

I thought there were zoning laws in place that stopped those industrial sites along the river from being developed?

I really hope whatever is developed on these sites keeps the industrial aesthetic and interacts with the river in a creative way.

There are a fair number of units in the City for around $900, especially for someone open to micro or studio.
But if you are considering the immediate vicinity of the CBD, it is hard for me to imagine anything being constructed at that price point given its rate per square foot.

They're part of a planned manufacturing district, but that doesn't mean manufacturing only. Although it precludes residential development The M zoning still allows for a fair range of commercial and office uses.

Such a shame that the filthy, low employment, loud, dirty, dusty, mess of an industry is vacating prime riverfront property smack dab between the nicest neighborhood in the city and the hottest neighborhood int he city right around the corner from a Metra station. What a terrible terrible loss, however will we recover? First the salt pile and now this? Before you know it this area will be full of all kinds of horrible things like riverwalks, Bloomingdale Trail extensions, luxury condos, and tech offices. Chicago will never recover.

Honestly though, I like the fact that there is part of Lincoln Park where you can accidentally drive through an active scrap yard complete with magnet cranes, car crushers, and quarter mile lines of scrapadero trucks, but it makes absolutely no 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵 sense. There are plenty of neighborhoods that could use the 6 jobs where this type of operation would actually make sense.

I can't really see the photo, but it looks ok to me. What exactly would you say is wrong with it?
