Here's another photo from today from the Southside Slopes, where you can see a crane for something, not sure what for. Im sure someone knows here.

Beautiful shot & great light. The crane is for the Oakland Skyview project which is looking more & more massive by the day as it goes up.

^ Yeah, it's for demolition of the old childrens hospital building.

Speaking of UPMC demolition... seeing that the old Duquesne Brewing bldg restoration has been started, I'd love to see them demolish the UPMC Southside facility across the street. I think it's barely used anymore and it's ugly and out of place.

They might build a fake larger support column where those three bars are, and have the actual entrance diagonal to the corner of the building and recessed.

based on the available renderings it's possible the developer doesn't know exactly how that entrance is going to work





the entrance looks better when those silly columns are photoshopped out of the picture
it's not like they're needed to support the wood structure above it

Very light planning commission schedule this week. The only new business is the nomination of an old carriage house in Point Breeze as a historic structure, the planned Arby's on Baum Boulevard, and signage for the Renaissance Hotel.

Was out taking photos again today of the fall colors so here's some more updates.


Hilton next to the Ballpark.

Whole ton of development and restorations going on in Duetschtown on Foreland Street.

New house and that little brown building next door is finally getting restored as well.


These buildings were completely falling apart this time last year and now they're restored, also on Foreland St.


New restoration also on Foreland.


And looks like this 1830s building is finally moving foreword on Foreland St.


This 1840s-50s house is also being restored now on Foreland.


These mid 1800s houses were recently completed on Middle Avenue just a couple of blocks away and they too were falling apart this time last year.




They just cleaned the facade on this building last week and are gutting the inside.


This 1890s beauty is also being restored at the corner of Cedar and East Ohio.

Foreland's looking great! Looks like two new houses on the 600 block right? Are they also developing the third lot? All of the lots are under different ownership, so it's kind of weird to see construction going on there. Looks like they demolished the crappy house next to that old two-story storefront/garage as well.

Still, the street has a way to go when compared to the likes of Avery, or even Suisimon. Too many shit industrial businesses on the north side of the street, and something needs to be done with the public parking lot on the south side of the 500 block as well.

Yes, those are on the 600 block, there are so many vacant lots over that way just begging for development. And yes, there are a couple of ugly 1 story 50's buildings that should be demolished in the future and have the lots developed with dense apartments.

Back in March/April of 2014 there was an amazing big house on the 600 block of Suisimon which was within our price range and had all of the original features intact (including crazy woodwork, none of which was painted). I still sort of kick myself every day that at that time my wife was still all "nope" on the idea of moving to the North Side. By the time I convinced her we should consider it, it was too late to find anything nice and affordable in the neighborhood, and we ended up stuck in the East End instead.

One more thing photoLith...the rehabs in the third picture, you didn't happen to go down Shawano did you? I remember when they went on the market, and there are (or at least were) alley houses back there. I'm wondering if they're rehabbing them too, or have knocked them down for parking.

When it opens its new Advanced Technologies Center in the Strip next year, Uber Technologies Inc. expects to staff it with 400 employees.

As Uber continues to ramp up its plans to establish a research center in Pittsburgh to develop autonomous vehicles, the company’s hiring expectations came to light at a Nov. 3 Pittsburgh City Council committee meeting at which the building redevelopment received a preliminary vote of approval for its sewage facility plan.

Craig Dunham, the project manager for the new center at 100 32nd St. who is also part of the building's ownership, told the council members of Uber’s plans as part of the process of getting approval from council. Council is expected to hold a final vote on the matter next week.

“At its opening in April in this upcoming year, we expect 400 people to be in that building,” he said. “Almost all of those are new employees to the city of Pittsburgh coming from all over the world.”
