Macleod Tr isn't a highway but I think you have the right idea about their reasoning.

If I saw that thing from a highway or whatever, I would be putting the pedal to the metal and getting the fuck outta Dodge. Quick honey, lets drive out to Okotoks and check out the latest population statistics!

They do have the world's largest glacial erratic boulder. I'd take Okotoks any day (it's actually kinda quaint) over the commuter dumpster fires of Cochring and Airdrie. I actually had a coworker tell me he liked living in Airdrie because there's more white people.

Does Okotoks still have a strict growth cap? I remember they originally planned to hit a maximum population of 30,000 or something like that to preserve the small-town identity. Have a feeling that may have been thrown out the window.

Still, it is the nicest of Calgary's satellite communities (may not be saying much).

Okotoks.........Cochrane...Chestermere.....................................Airdrie (should be off the page)

Hahaha, that last bit is basically the Sherwood Park/St. Albert mentality up here. The young adults from each place love country bars because they're so whitewashed.

Speaking of which, I went to Ranchmans once in Calgary (not by choice) and I think it was probably the least comfortable I've felt at a bar. It's my top Ugly Calgary nomination.

What can you possibly have against the place that brought us this scene from Cool Runnings?

One more from my recent trip to Montreal. I think this was by the horse racing tracks. Not sure what the wasteland around it was.

In the distance you have the contrasting beauty of the Oratoire St. Joseph with those Stalinesque commie blocks beside it. A very weird mishmash in this photo of urban and desolate, old and new. My brother in law said this photo could just as well have been taken in Kazakstan and you wouldn't know the difference.

The sun actually lit up the basilica for a few amazing seconds but by the time I took this pic it was clouded over again. Would have made for an awesome photo.

It's because Montrealers get extra taxes compared to others ... but yes it's still high.
I remember last month, I went in New-Brunswick and I saw the price of gas under 1$ per liter and I said to the cashier : Darn, I think haven't see it in ages in Quebec !
And she looked like surprised.

Currently 1.25 in Metro Vancouver. We supposedly have the highest gas taxes in the country.

It happened again! More grass replaced with unidriveways in NE Calgary. Completely contravenes city by-laws. My father in law went to go see his old house and snapped these pics of the neighbours' renos. They also decided to paint the formerly white house the colour of urine.

And this one: the Listerine house.

Houses like that prove without a doubt that we live in a car dominated culture.
