I choosed the Montcalm Neighborhood in Quebec city for similar reasons. I love Pre-War /British style, architecture and districts. They are just dense enough with full of trees, but not too much dense like Old Montréal or Old Quebec.
Plus, you get all that activity of a place where peoples are walking alot, to go to good restaurants such as those on Cartier St. wich is a 10min walk from my home.

The most depressing restaurant in Canada:

From what I could see looking in it actually reminded me most of Chachki's from Office Space. Fake silk plants everywhere and brass railings. The logo is pure Québécois cheese.

The only thing that could make the Laval clocktower worse would be that sign for Scores in place of the clock.

This is actually so bad it's good. I would take this for originality any day over your standard suburban vinyl boxes though. I love how they just stacked this vertical staircase above the brick garage up to the catwalks.

The food at Scores is actually not *too* bad... Kind of like a poorer version of St-Hubert.

The location near my place is a converted former Perkins (the first and only failed attempt in Quebec by that chain) and is only one step up from a cafeteria. The clientele goes with the décor.

Others I have been in in Hull and in the Montreal area that were purpose-built are somewhat nicer. Not as nice as the contemporary St-Hubert restaurants but maybe like Swiss Chalet when they try to force themselves to make something decent. OK, maybe that last comparison won't be convincing for you guys...

Considering how beautiful airport Vancouver has, the flight control tower is still an ugly beast. ZERO design went to building it.

A step up from a cafeteria sounds about right. Quebec has this weird thing for crappy chicken places.

A few from my travels...

Any business along the TCH up in the moorlands. This one in Whitbourne.

All the North Atlantic gas stations have an Orange Store as their convenience store. The design and colours are the same, even the one on Water Street West. This one is in Clarenville or thereabouts.

And a few within the city... any of the strip malls along Torbay Road heading out toward the Stavanger Drive big box area:

The West Block, a brown brick addition to the already-hideous Confederation Building.

Anything in O'Leary Industrial Park, which is disturbingly close to downtown, right beside the Avalon Mall. The really tragic thing is that it's close enough to downtown that there is actually some life within it - fish n chip shops and the like. Seems tragic, rather than positive.

I'm sad to say I never got the opportunity to shoot any pictures of the clock tower of doom or it's evil spawn during my trip. I did see it looming in the distance though on several occasions.

The sleezy bit reminded me... it's being turned into condos now. Still one of the ugliest buildings in the city.
