Only a few weeks until the MkIII trains are running & we'll know who's right.

System hold tonight; was initially on entire system, now limited to waterfront and Edmonds.

Problems with VCC1 Apparently. Caused 12 trains to T/O

If you are talking about the white panel at the windshield area, that covers the manual train controls.

I do notice that said panel is deeper than before, but that in no way appears to be a wall.
I think you are right.
Take a look at the following Mark II car picture. In order to get a full size front window, the equipment cabinets on both left and right side need to be moved. My guess is a big rectangle cabinet at the front of the train is used to house all the equipment.
Now Translink might have to put something on top of the cabinet to prevent passenger from sitting on top of it.

On an unrelated note, this hasn't been posted anywhere but before it got here, someone spotted the Mark III en-route on the Coquihalla just outside of Kamloops.... xD

Not only are they losing customers due to these shutdowns (many people I know have just opted to drive), but Translink is sure pissing people off with their antics.

My friend got dinged $4.20 on Saturday night for what should have been a 70 min trip from Vancouver to Surrey. The journey ended up taking over 2 hours due to the shutdown. The bus driver made her tap onto the bus.

Compared to those 4-6 hours trips I've been on when traveling to/from PoCo to SFU a few years ago, I'll take the SkyTrain breakdown any day.

The unreliable bus service here, the "service optimization", the 97 snail-line, and now the traffic jams on Brunette and Cape Horn interchange caused by the PMH1 project had pretty much lost ALL but one of the people I know of... Who would bother to take transit if it consistently takes more than 1 hour just to get to the closest SkyTrain station??

No wonder transit ridership is falling fast in the Northeast sector, losing about 2-3% each year

Went by there later today (27th) and didn't see anything at OMC2. The doors were shut and the site was empty. When I walked up the block I saw the Mark III on the other side at OMC1 inside one of the sheds. I'm guessing they've moved it to OMC1 in preparation for the next set coming to OMC2?

I think that it being moved to OMC1 is more likely to be for testing/inspection than anything else.

Yeah, looks like there may be a short pony wall behind the front window (?)

I thought that it was just the metal cover of the manual controls that we are seeing?

If that's the control panel, it's still set back farther from the front window than on the MKIIs,
as it looks to line up with the front edge of the side window (and we can assume the side windows have not changed position).
See the placement of the side window on this MKII diagram.

They also stated that the front area is large like the Canada line. Maybe no front seat perhaps?

I can't see how a full-length four-car MkIII would fit in the OMC2 building.

Especially when OMC2 is busy with the MkI refurb project.

More likely is the MkIII cars were off-loaded at OMC2 to get them on rails (without interfering with normal daily operations at OMC1) & then shunted over the bridge to OMC1 and into the maintenance building so they can be re-assembled as one train, have their delivery testing done, have the finishing touches added to the exterior and interior, and begin the 'acceptance testing' phase.

Interesting to see the article mention that it may be 2 months before this train goes into revenue service.

Yeah, kids would be very disappointed they can no longer touch the front window.
I think the configuration will be similar to the Canada Line train. No fixed driver seat and seats for passengers will be on either side.

The "driver seat" isn't actually meant to be used while driving manually. The attendants are supposed to stand so that they have a clear view of the tracks out the window. Removing that seat wouldn't inconvenience them at all (but it would disappoint me )

There's a required "endurance running" period for all new trains. The Buzzer has a few details about it from the last shipment of trains in 2009.

Beyond that, I suspect there's at least a month or so of staff training to be done before that train can leave the yard. Need to make sure that technicians and staff are familiar with it and any differences between it and previous models.

I suppose technically off topic.

I was at New West Station around 11-ish last night and was on the inboard platform. I noticed a man jogging on the other platform and then did a double take - 'wait, is he wearing pants?' A few other people noticed too and as we stepped on the train we looked out the windows and he was gone (as were the blue coats - presumably after him).

So as a few others mentioned the MK III is currently hidden away inside the OMC where you can't get at it with a 300mm lens so nothing at all interesting was happening other than two guys driving around in a two car MK I.

By the time I was back on a train and on my way to New West they had a few people loitering an leader truck at the refurb plant across the street and a partially restored MK I sitting on the back of the track. I went back around and by the time I was passing again they had separated a MK I at OMC, pulled half across the bridge with another train, uncoupled it and were in the process of loading it onto a flatbed.

You can also see the rather large painters tent inside the building now. The MK III is not hiding in there.
In other news, the refurb has....somehow changed the MK I's acoustics. The LIM's now make a rather distinct whine at all times that's quite loud both in the train and from a good distance. (man does it echo through the night) I can't seem to find it in recordings I made in the last few years.

Really disappointing that they stopped refurbishing the insides of the car. Prior to 2015, they were removing several aisle seats to allow for more room and re-painting the insides. Now? Nothing.
