I agree. Assuming they don't go cheap on materials it looks really solid.

Inside the city of Calgary, there are 8 new flood mitigation projects approved or underway including berms for the Bonnybrook Wastewater Treatment Plant and the Calgary Zoo, and a new pumping station to protect Sunnyside/Hillhurst.

Calgary's West Village Towers - 150 meters, 125 meters, and 100 meters - just applied for their building permit. Another 575 rental apartments for downtown. An entire city block of parking/car dealership gone.

Chadillaccc, the podium on that proposal has some great potential. I like it.

Yeah, the original version was a dumpster fire but the city demanded enhanced pedestrian interaction and it was done. I am anxious to see what the re-design of the south face of the podium will be like. The previous version was basically a wall with a couple doors and windows interspersed.

Galway, the new town being built beside Mount Pearl within the city limits of St. John's, has some new renderings out.

The residential component will include this:

And the commercial component is a big box development with lots of parking out front.

This was marketed as being the very best in contemporary urban planning. Danny said he went everywhere, especially Europe, getting the best planners to come up with something great.

And this... this... it's literally the worst urban planning we've ever come up with. It's already passe everywhere else in Canada. That's twice the road for 1/4 the houses. WTFingF?

Yeah, that looks like an option, but it looks like it might also be some kind of sleek white wall set up. If it's the former it will be ugly, and I fear that might be what we get, but if it's the latter it should be nice.

Another proposal for London. This is being proposed by the County of Middlesex as they want to replace their old offices with this office/residential structure. The location is at the forks of the Thames river. This is probably the 6th or 7th tower in the 30 floor range proposed for the downtown.

290 feet/28 stories.

Honestly I think maybe in the right context, with the right surroundings, this building could look great (or at least good). But based on the rendering this is not that context.

On a similar note, that London proposal looks interesting, and again could look excellent in the right context, but the weird angles really clash with its surroundings. It looks very un-London, and maybe that was the point, but this looks like it was designed for another city and put there by accident. Just my opinion.

Kind of curious what your solution would be then. London's downtown is literally full of uninteresting buildings, so should all future projects also stick with the prefab concrete status quo?

I've never been a huge fan of the "angles for the sake of angles" seen in some modern designs, but this building is shooting so much higher than all of our recent proposals that I feel downright silly saying anything negative about it.

I think the London proposal is fabulous, but isn't that the site that the museum currently stands?
