The vehicle garage at the district RCMP detachment next to the Moncton Hospital was demolished today. They just finished construction of the new forensics building on the campus a couple of months ago. I wonder what plans they have for where the garage used to be?

Recent changes to the provincial building code mandates a certain number of "accessible" units be included in any residential condo project. For Castle Manor, that would mean one accessible unit, but since this is a conversion of a heritage building, the cost is quite high and the developer thinks that it is enough to prevent him from making a profit.

He has stopped construction and subcontractors have been let go. The building has been gutted and apparently one more winter of no maintenance may be enough to result in the structure being condemned.
T&T is reporting that work has resumed on this project. Owners will incorporate an accessible unit after all.

Thats good news for the project and cant wait to see the final project... Also one thing that I could see is a drastic changes in that area of Mountain Road.. Hope that we will see what the plans will hold out for the old Moncton High property and the construction of an expanded Zio's restaurant.

Moncton High has still yet to be purchased, and with the people of Moncton making groups to tell whoever does purchase the property what it should, and shouldn't be is actually slowing the purchasing process to a halt. There is also the price tag, and the fact the building does/has have(had) mold issues that seem to have been only half fast addressed. Developers don't seem keen on wanting to jump in.

All valid points. Sometimes we can complicate things too much for developers and end up shooting ourselves in the foot. Still, the community does deserve to have a voice in the redevelopment of this building, especially given it's historical and architectural significance. We just need to have reasonable people on both sides.........

BTW - very glad to see that work has restarted on Castle Manor. I don't think a single accessible unit would have been that much of a drawback. Perhaps the developer finally realized this. I personally know able bodied people who would like an accessible unit because they are "planning ahead". It could actually be a selling feature.

Variance before the October Moncton PAC concerning the "crater" at 840 Main Street, located next to the old T&T Building (where the firebombing was about 15 years ago).

Quote:
PMV Canada Inc. 840 rue Main Street, Moncton (PID/NID 70598990) variances to allow non-traditional materials to be used on the front and rear façade and to reduce the rear yard setback tom 6 metres to 3.3 metres
Here's the location:

Here's a rendering of what the proposed building for this site was supposed to look like (as of last year).

It will be interesting to see if this rendering is still valid or not. I see that the request for variance deals with "non traditional building materials". I wonder what this means?

Just a guess from looking at the plan but I'm going to say they want to make the main level portion tile instead of Brick, or they might want to clad it in the same way 890 Main st. is clad. But of course that is just speculation on my part.

I'm still wondering if stucco is considered non traditional for the area as well...

On a separate note does anyone know if the DOD Moncton Garrison Buildings are still in use or not. This week I seen less, and less vehicles driving in then usual it seems.

I'd be surprised to see 55 Queen get off the ground at all. They haven't sold any more units since the last time this came up, and anyone still waiting for their units to be built should be fed up by now (construction was supposed to start last year, then this spring, then this fall). They need to either take the risk to build it now and sell the units later, or pack up altogether because current depositors won't wait forever.

You're right Pierre, it's time for them to shit or get off the pot.

If there are no shovels in the ground by next Spring, I imagine this project will be dead, Dead, DEAD..........

I don't think this was posted before: Castle Manor website - http://castlemanorestates.ca/

Floor plans are pretty cool. They show a total of 13 units, starting at $277,450, with either one or two bedrooms, and ranging from 895 to 2,580 sq. ft. (though most are 1,000 to 1,300). Two units span two storeys (3rd & 4th).

I was not expecting the units would look this good. But of course will see if it still does when this project is done.

What's going on where Isaac Lawson's Stylish Clothing used to be on Main Street?

The store closed recently (not surprising, the owner was dealt a very serious blow by the severe weather last winter, which essentially eliminated foot traffic into the store).

The store is gone, but the interesting thing is that the facade has been removed (as has also been the case in the storefront next door as well). Does anyone know if anything is moving in there?

I'm not sure what is taking it's place but the building itself was sold and the new owners have been doing some upgrades, they just recently replaced all the windows in the building as well as the renovations you discussed.

The Building houses (housed) the Clothing Store to the right side. AI Enterprises offices (door in the middle with stairs up), and Drakes the placement agency. I'm wondering if Drake is going to stay or if the door at the front to go upstairs will stay.

The next image shows phase two "in outline" with relation to the existing phase one. Note that there is also a "phase three" in the distant background.

It appears that phase 2 has been downsized from two 4-storey buildings to a single, continuous 2-storey building. I use John St multiple times a week and noticed that the construction site doesn't match the original conceptual drawings.

This render (taken from their website) seems to show the entrance from John St, east of the existing building; note the sea of parking in front - why would the city approve this?
