Here's the plan: http://www.halifaxdevelopments.com/images/ss-expansion-portfolio.pdf

Looks like the footprint is actually quite small.

Great to see this going forward I'm sure it will have a noticeable effect on Scotia Square.
I wonder if the three other Scotia Square additions will be going up around the same time as this or if they will stagger them. I know Westhill on Duke has been proposed for a while.

Also interesting to note is that International Place is shown in the report, good to see that the plan is still to go ahead with this. Also What is the building that is proposed next to Brunswick place?

They should build a legit flatiron-style building where International Place is supposed to go. Perfect placement -- at a narrow triangular plot, which could be a stunning way to welcome the key corridor into the city (Barrington).

I hope they do. That area is absolutely awful.

That would be kinda cool, but I imagine they will have to wait for the final Cogswell reconfiguration before they do anything there?

Whoa! What is "Brunswick Place/Tower"? I assume it's the Trade Mart expansion shown on this map- I've not heard any details before...

Hmm. Interesting. I wonder how it fits into that broader plan for the Cogswell replacement?

By the way, how recent is that document?

I was hoping they'd have a Metro Transit indoor waiting space there, in front of the present open area on the Barrington side. From the plans, it looks like they'll have two ground level tenants moving into that newly expanded space.

I think there needs to be an indoor waiting space. This is one of the most major transit interchanges in the city, and it's basically a wasteland of concrete and a few meager glass shelters, compared to the huge structure on the Dartmouth side.

I was just reading an article about the new Maison Simon store in Vancouver that goes on to list a number of stores they plan to open in the next few years, Yorkdale 2019 being the last one on the list. Peter Simon indicates that they will be looking to expand to other places in Canada including the Maritimes. Could be very good for Halifax and something to look forward to.

There's an "Unsightly Premises" notice on the boarded-up property between PetValu and the Eastlink store, on Spring Garden Road.

EDIT: Bookmark, not PetValu

I wonder what's going on there? There have been a few different rumours about developments for that site ever since the house burned down. It's too bad that such a prominent spot has sat vacant for so long.

What does that mean? That the owner has to do something about it, or face fines?

Such a central spot that has sat dormant for too long.

I didn't read the whole notice, as the sidewalk was busy and I didn't want to block it with my wheelchair. I'll check on it sometime soon, but probably not before someone else can go check it out.

Planfifax did a video this week on the IDEAS building for Dalhousie's Sexton Campus. It seems there is an actual design now.

The pics are screen caps from the video.

This will really complement the Main Library next door.

Looks okay but those have got to be some of the least flattering renderings I've seen in a while. Why render bleak winter scenes that look like people will need to trudge through a parking lot to get to the building?

At one point there was a plan for some park space on part of this lot. I think it was more or less where the walkway is now, behind the library, with one or two building lots next to it. Hopefully Dal won't take decades to develop the rest of this land, but I am worried that's what going to happen since it's pretty huge in relation to the rest of the Sexton campus. They seem to get a small-ish building every 15 years or so.

Ha ha! I was looking at those, thinking: Wow, someone finally didn't pretend it was sunny all the time here! I see what you mean though, they mightn't be the best sales pitch.

I like when they decorate the renderings with 10-foot-tall Real Housewives type models, clad in what we're supposed to believe are gratuitously expensive designer outfits, who are staring off into space. Is there some rendering software that comes with this clipart?

There is a place called Alberni Street in Vancouver where you can see these people in real life. If nothing else it makes you reflect on the value of human civilization. Sometimes I think we just need a do-over.
