Tuffy already hinted it would be a heavy and long haul and so AM doesn't fit either of those.

Not sure how I got pulled into an airline thread, but it's really obvious your deep rooted inferiority about your city continues to force you to take extreme measures in seeking external validation. Your posts reminds me a lot of the Enquirer.

Looking forward to the daily rundown on rumors, plots, twists. That recycled material, over and over.

Btw YYC has 3 times the amount of transborder and international stats as YEG, and YEG is seeing negative growth this yr. Lots to brag about.

Personal attacks are never warranted, and let's please keep from making this a "vs" thread.

Wow, I see nothing that warranted spring2008's response...

The comment wasn't offensive at all if you read it over again. That attitude is soooo 1991...

Let's get over the "my boners bigger than yours" because at the end of the day mines bigger then both of yours combined...

Both airports are set to see losses and growth in certain sectors this year both are not fairing very well in the transborder sector, international continues to grow at both...

Sheesh.

I guess another interesting thing WS has to think about with the 763 is that as of now the YEG crew has no cans, no can loaders, no way to move cans, nobody trained with cans, and no tow bar for a 763 nor anything resembling a timeline for any of this to happen aside from "before Hawaii starts".

If they want to fly it here any time in the immediate future for a potential test flight or what have you, they would have to restrict it such that everything fits in the bulk compartment, lest they defer handling to Swissport or AC.

WS 767 MTOW only 172,365 kg, as i suspected, much lower than on AC's newest 767s (186,880 kg).
These birds will have a hard time on any Alberta-China runs.

http://wwwapps.tc.gc.ca/saf-sec-sur/2/ccarcs-riacc/ADet.aspx?id=528663&rfr=RchSimp.aspx

Even AC's oldest 767, C-FCAB, built in 1988, has a 181,439 kg MTOW.

According to the Boeing ACAP document for the 767, seems like 172,365 kg was the initial weight variant on the 763ER. So most likely QF ordered these lighter birds as they probably didn't need any additional lift back in the day.

Different weight variants:

172,365 kg (WS)
175,540 kg
181,437 kg (AC's oldest 767)
184,612 kg
186,880 kg (AC's newest 767)

Based on the payload/range charts, anything greater than 5000 nm (still air) is a no go for this WS bird. YVR-LGW is 4126 nm. Although the westbound leg could easily reach 4600-4700 nm still air distance factoring in the headwinds.

Plenty of legs for Alberta-Hawaii though !

Hard time as in impossible. YVR-PVG is about 5200nm, and I think Beijing is about the same. So YYC or YEG to PEK or PVG would be in the same distance league, if not a little further.

Just not going to happen with that equipment, unfortunately. I'd love to see a China-Calgary flight, but it seems very unlikely to me that it'll be Westjet that does it.

They're doable, just not will full pax and bags. Seats will have to be left open.

If WS goes to Asia with that aircraft it will have to be Japan.

Not sure Japan would be that much closer given the flight paths are polar.

To Tokyo: 4949 nautical miles
To Beijing: 5451 nautical miles
(according to gcmap.com)

Of course, physical shortest path is not always the same as "practical" shortest path, due to ETOPS requirements, weather, and political considerations (e.g., crossing Russia).

^ North Korea is an absolute no go, which would add a bit to a PVG routing, but NRT and PEK would almost always be fine.

C-FOGJ makes her first appearance at a Canadian air terminal today. Currently gated at A17.
Latest I've heard first flight will be later this week.

Quick question about YYC. Once the new terminal is build out, are there any long-term plans to renovate and/or replace the existing portion? There's going to be quite an aesthetic disconnect.

There are plans to renovate, but these renovations will be for function not form. (ie. renovate B concourse to better handle regional ops, not replace brown pizza carpet tile with granite to better match new terminal.)

Yes. I am reminded of this every time I come back to the current terminal after spending a few hours in the new one. The difference will be very noticeable for connecting passengers.

Long term the plans are to bring some of the design elements in the International terminal over to the Domestic, but it won't be happening overnight and in all reality won't happen until renovations are required in old areas.

Can't be any worse than a lot of major airports in the US. DFW for example - terminal D is gorgeous and terminal C is incredibly ugly. Aesthetic disconnect between concourses is not an unusual thing.

Heck even the difference between YYZ terminal 3 and 1 is pretty striking.

Remember when 3 was the crown jewel for YYZ and Canadian Airlines? Now it just screams 90's to me.
