And how to you know the TBM not moving huh? Do you actually see that it stopped somewhere? At the current location, the soil must travel 1.5km to reach the portal. Can't they just stop the flow somewhere in the middle of the tunnel and dump them out in batches, rather than having the need of truck lining up all days, 7 days a week?

Well, I think what this establishes is that tunneling projects are not to be taken lightly. If and when the Broadway line is tunneled, sufficient (and by that I mean double any estimate) time should be allocated to the tunneling timeline.

My thanks to everyone for their comments on my last posts.

Just now, I noticed that the Hazmat trucks are back. Three of them, this time.

Last time that there was a shutdown, there were only two, a little one and a big one. Now there are three, all big.

What are they finding down there, mercury.? An old dump site? A Picton disposal pit? Contaminated soil from leaking sewage pipes?

On top of that, if you have been watching, someone built a plywood fence along part of the guardrail of the pit. This is to prevent anyone from actually seeing, from the street, what has been dumped out into the spoil pit.

So, I am sure that this situation is being "handled" in some fashion. I am sure that this will be worked out in some fashion.

I wonder how many more of these "planned maintenance" delays we are going to endure?

Apologies to Translink, if the MoT is really the one managing this.

Are you sure they're hazmat trucks? Or are they vacuum trucks? I've seen a lot of muddy slope come out. I would imagine after enough accumulation it's just easier to bring in a vacuum truck instead of scooping it out.

That could be said about budgets.

No one wants to hear that it is going to cost twice as much an take twice as long.

Politicians wouldn't get re elected on those.

But, blaming Translink is the cool thing to do, right?

While we're at it, the Port Mann Bridge tolls are Translink's fault as well.

In terms of "management" - the procurement contract is here.

It would allocate responsibility between the Province of BC and Evergreen Rapid Transit Holdings Inc. (the private consortium building the line). I'm not sure if EGRT Construction is a subsidiary of Evergreen Rapid Transit Holdings Inc. or if there was a name change.

Good news: no lane restrictions on Clarke Road/Snake Hill for Evergreen TBM. I assume that means they are now in the final stretch to the portal and running the machine parallel to Clarke.

For the third time, in three weeks, the TBM has simply ceased operating.

On Wednesday, the site closed up, no activity at all, no spoils, no trucks. And ... someone posted a "this is where we are now" PDF on the web site.

This is not a tirade (as some would call my postings) but a simple question.

Does anyone actually know what is really going on?

The tunnel will go through, no question. With 550 meters to go, and the alignment along Clark road from now on, if the TBM simply goes away, they could finish the job with cut and cover.

I just don't get this routine. Why dig for 5 to 6 days, then close up for three.

I thought a TBM was 24/7 until it is done.
