I'm sure they are, for someone who does not care about good urban design and walk-ability.

When most of the blocks have parking decks and/or surface lots that face the surrounding streets...THAT's turning your back.

Not to be an a'hole, but I'm sure my homes are more urban and modern than most, if not all the posters on here. I love a great urban design as much as anyone. BUT, some of the people on here have such a small-minded, country bumpkin attitude, till they only promote the ideology of southerners. As I said before, look at the big picture. There are a plethora of things that you will be able to do IN the walk-ability of the new stadium...there was/is nothing around Turner Field. Nor is it an area that people would go hang-out and spend their money. This new stadium is giving people options to dine, shop, etc. As far some people talking about traffic...traffic is a nightmare to get to Turner Field, with or without a game. But you have some southerners that are so stuck on it having an Atlanta address, till some of them technically live closer to the new stadium, but are ranting they will stop supporting the Braves. Some of you had the same idea of if the Falcons moved to Doraville, they would stop going to the Falcons game. Los Angeles is building a new football stadium in Inglewood, and people for the most part, welcome the idea, and are ecstatic about the new stadium, the jobs, and the new businesses, that is coming along with the stadium. I guess some people will never change...fortunately there are enough people with true progressive mindsets, that Atlanta is not as backwards as Birmingham.

Sigh. This is the development thread. Can you please keep the off-topic ranting and name-calling to private messages? Pro-tip: If you find yourself starting a post with "Not to be an a-hole, but..." just push backspace a few times, don't post, and save us all the trouble.

In Atlanta development news, since this is the Atlanta development thread, the Beltline is moving forward on the Southside Trail.

Hmmm-- criticizing the Braves for abandoning the city (when every other major league team has invested in their inner cities) is not particularly Southern (Yes we are not all dumb rednecks, some of us are pretty damn high faluntin', designin' buildings all over the world and writin' architectural criticism). Wanting good urbanism, even in the suburbs, is not unsophisticated and wanting developments that relate organically to their surroundings instead of being isolated outdoor shopping centers (no matter how urbane) is a worthwhile desire. As far as folks with 'true progressive mindsets'-- yep, I've been accused of that one too. ;-)

Question: Was this your concept of not being an a'hole???

It was one of the smaller mobile cranes for the precast parking deck - not the tower crane.

It is what it is. Walkability is important but it's too late for that area. I can walk to half a dozen restaurants from my home in the time it would take to cross a typical Cumberland street. Cobb Parkway is as wide as half a city block. The 75/285 interchange is literally the size of Midtown:

It pains me to say it but there's no reason for that development to address the street. There aren't enough pedestrians for that now and there likely never will be. That's not because of a lack of street-front retail options, but because the infrastructure was built at such an enormous scale that walking is a last resort. Urban islands are as much as that area can hope for.

Yet Bham just built their nice new little baseball stadium right near the heart of the city with awesome urban parks and development surrounding it...

Some of you should move there, since you think they do things the right way in Birmingham. Lol

I just find your statement about Bham very ironic because you are simultaneously defending the building of Atlanta's new baseball stadium far away from the city on a freeway with no public transportation access. That's the epitome of backwards in my humble opinion.

With your derogatory remarks and huge generalization of 'Southerners' not meeting your alleged sophisticated 'standards,' I feel that you are the one that really needs to move.

You obviously are a bad match here, and there are literally flights back and forth to LAX all day every hour or so, every day. Do us all a favor and just commute if you have to be here.

Your arrogance and ignorance regarding Atlanta and the South is over the top, in my opinion - and has been for a long time.
