The Buzzer Blog - Take a survey and have your say on proposed transit changes

Starting October 13, 2015 you're invited to take part in an online survey and provide feedback on more than 85 proposed transit changes across Metro Vancouver. We're asking for feedback now, so we can consider your input as we plan for the future. The survey is available until November 6, 2015.

They actually look good when they run in 6 car sets, and properly fill up the platform, and carry a good number of people.

IMO all MK I trains should run in 6 car sets. The 4 car sets just don't hold enough people. It is always disappointing when you are on a crowded platform first thing in the morning and a 4 car set shows up (usually pretty full).

That's true, yes. However I just can't help liking the look and feel of the MK II trains so much better.

With the "optional" 24-cars we were supposed to get in 2009, that would have allowed all Mark I cars to be in 6-car train-sets. Now as far as I can see even with the optional 28-cars in the 2016 order, it would be to just turn the 2-car Mark II trains into 4-car Mark II trains every 2 (or is it 4 minutes) along the millennium line.

And they sound cooler as a six-car set also

It was cool to see a MARK I repainted car(exterior) being transported this morning (HWY1/Canada Way)

What was the unit number on that? Any pictures?

I was told that the repainting for these vehicles is in a different facility across the Fraser.

Agreed with the 6-car Mk1 trains looking pretty legit. The crowding inside would be moderately improved if they all had side-seating, as opposed to the end segments having seats perpendicular to the direction of travel.

Small aside, I recently took a group of undergraduate urban planning students from Toronto on a 'whistle-stop' tour of Metro Vancouver via SkyTrain and they were in disbelief that it was the same system technology as the Scarborough RT.

I believe the RTs have all side seating layout.

To add, I think the end cabins should be standing space only. I usually reside in the front and can only accommodate 1 other person on the folding chair. Its opportunity for standing space.

I wonder if folding seats are even feasible to create standing space.

As far as 6 cars is concerned, I believe it should be more common on weekends when the MK3s arrive.

Back to 41 avenue corridor, they plan on removing stops on the 043 at

Carnarvon St
16th at Wesbrook
2100 Block
2900 block

And adding a stop at
Rupert Street.

The 701 extention will not see weekend service.
352 will not see off peak service.

Some statistics:
95% of the Champlain Heights stops on the 049 are barely used
90% of 620 riders go the full way
Less than 5 people use the Brookswood extention on the 502
Less than 13 people ride 341 in Cloverdale in peak hours

There's already a 43 stop near joyce and kings way but they'll add a Rupert stop? And remove the knight and oak stop, both busy streets ???

I think Translink did a Ninja-edit on that page; they've updated it and now it says there will still be stops at Oak and Knight. And you're right, adding the Rupert stop does seem pretty redundant, not sure why they're doing that.

I think that connection is more suitable towards the 041. I wouldnt think the 043 would need that transfer.

No, its not ninja edit, I had missed those 3 stops.

044: Proposed Changes
Remove stops at...

Pacific St
Robson St
Georgia St
Hornby Street EB

Add stop at Alberni street (Georgia and Robson are overall balanced to 1 stop.

Next service change is early-Mid december (usually a monday). I think more of the major stuff usually happens in June and September.

I think these are to be spread out throughout the next 5-10 years.
