Judging from that rendering the building is in the middle of the road, im worried that cars will crash right into it, how can the designers be so foolish?

CoV requirement to make driving as painful as possible. There's a bike lane that goes through the building, though.

I've never posted in a forum before, but hoping to do a little public shaming for the VIP event happening this evening at the Burrard Place showroom.

The rope marking off the red carpet area was originally placed along the tree line at the Burrard Street entrance to the showroom. This meant pedestrians had walk into the bus lane in order to pass (or walk over the rope and through the red carpet). While on a call to the city (I dialled 311), the staff moved the rope so that there was about three feet of public sidewalk (covered in red carpet). Little accommodation for anyone disabled.

When I asked a couple of the women from the showroom why it was appropriate for them to block the public sidewalk, their responses were that people could "use the other side of the street" or "I wasn't in charge of permitting." How arrogant....and what a horrible way to start becoming a neighbour in the neighbourhood. Jerks!

Although not in the trailer, these renderings seem to suggest a vertical lighting element (light blue) along the length of that south-facing vertical spine.

Yea that's a pet peeve of mine. Barnone in yaletown also ropes off the sidewalk every weekend.

So it looks like a bit of dark almost black paneling used in some sections. Please God I hope it doesn't get switched to green/seafoamy shit.

The Delta Hotel In Toronto uses a similar angle as does Burrard Place,
But the complementing angle there continues straight upwards.

Anyway, I think it's smarter looking than Burrard Place (and I'm not criticizing the balcones at Burrard Place) They're integral to the building.

I just think the Toronto Delta is snazzier all round, and wish we could have had that somewhere in Vancouver. Pardon the diversion, but both design angles converge in commonality.

I had always thought it was straight.

EDIT: Looking at the older renders and models, it was bent, but only one way, not ove rand back.

So, I just noticed something else. In addition to that faint but tantalizing strip of blue up the south-facing vertical spine, you can also see a rather tall building depicted on the far right in the rendering below. If I recall correctly, jlousa hinted a few years ago that something substantial was in the works for the northeast corner of Hornby and Drake. Could this image (which seems more than a generic massing) be it and an indication that its public reveal is imminent? Like Burrard Place, there are no viewcones (other than the irrelevant QE Park one) that go over that site.

I think that's due to the ultra-wide angle view.
You need to hark back to Expo 86 and stand in a wrap-around theatre to view the pic.
Then Pacific and Burrard Bridge will be at 90 degrees to each other.

Sorry to burst your bubble but I think that is just the Salt building.

Love the blue LED feature though!

Also love the angular-pattern overhang of each floor of the Jim Pattison office tower: it does somewhat emulate the pattern of the Jim Pattison logo branding.

...The first, One Burrard Place (60 floors, 444 units), is being billed as Vancouver's first true 5-star luxury condo. And at 550 feet, it will be the city’s third-tallest building after Shangri-La and Trump Vancouver. A second 35-storey tower will follow. “This is the largest active project downtown right now,” Jon tells us.

Burrard Place will have a three-storey Toyota showroom at the corner of Burrard and Drake, with service areas on five underground levels, the only full-service dealership in downtown Vancouver. This will replace the old Pattison Toyota, which had stood on the site for 42 years. Reliance, which owns the property adjacent to the dealership, is contributing 60% of the land holdings and equity to the Burrard Place JV. Integrated into the same structure as the dealership will be a 13-storey, 135k SF office building, and Jon says the JV partners plan to retain and manage it as a long-term holding asset.

Burrard Place will have 66k SF of additional large-floor plate strata office space across three floors in a seven-storey podium that will run through the base of both residential towers. “Strata office is a strongly emerging market in Vancouver,” Jon notes. The podium will also include a 45k SF Meinhardt Fine Foods and 35k SF amenity centre, with a pool, gym and dining rooms, and hotel-like services such as an on-demand caterer, sommelier, fashion consultant and event planner. All amenities will be available to commercial tenants (for a fee), not just residents. “We’re trying to mix people together in more of a collaborative way,” says Jon.

Jon says the plan is to break ground on Burrard Place in January, and he expects the build to take 42 months. The podium of the second residential tower will include a full-size grocery store. Ummm, already the first sentence kills the credibility of that guy. Calling this the first true 5-star luxury condo in Vancouver (and not considering Shangri-La, Trump and The Georgia as such) is utterly stupid.

Although, this is the first tower that I know having a star chef, butler, pastry chef, event planner, fashion consultant, a DJ, wine services and even a mixologist on demand. Boy, I wish our building would provide a DJ every time I need one!
