From my few visits to Walmart I have observed a strange contradiction. The section of impulse items near the checkout always includes condoms yet there are always a disproportionate number of teen moms in the stores.

Canadian Tire Fire for the win. I looked at the photo and thought, that can't be the one on Albert Street North here can it and I was wrong. Central Toronto apparently.

Ugly Canada is everywhere and its killing our sense of place.

Yeah because they all look the same I couldn't tell if it was the one that burnt down by my place in Calgary at first. You're right though, it's from Tarana.

The ironic thing about Michael's is that, while it is an art supply store, it is literally the least inspiring place in the world.

Like, going to that place makes me want to not make art.

Yep. The sterile fluorescent lighting combined with the stink of pot pouri are nauseating. Also I remember having to buy some art supplies there when I'd run out between trips to actual art supply stores in my ACAD days and it was always marked up a few bucks more at Michael's. They are total rip off artists. Pun intended.

If Michael's is one bookend of granny-land, then Sears must be the other one. I get depressed as fuck wandering around the tired aisles of Sears.

Without a doubt, the Sears location at North Hill mall in Calgary is one of the saddest places I have ever shopped at. Is it still open? Because it perpetually looks like a business that is in the midst of having a liquidation sale.

YES!!! Walking through that place to get to the mall food court from ACAD was like walking through the mall in Dawn of the Dead. Every aisle was blocked by silver haired walking dead. Sadly it is still open. I used to work at Sears in Southcentre (the least depressing in the city) and I would always get calls from other stores with no inventory and that was always the one I got the most calls from. If you google haunted places in Calgary it is listed. Supposedly an old janitor still does his rounds there. The photo centre on the second floor is creepy as hell too.

Funny enough when I worked there the only thing I ever saw any old people buy were batteries and cordless phones with giant number buttons. That's all they ever bought.

Sears: where the early 80s style never died. The interior décor. The exterior cladding. The preppie clothing styles. The early 80s muzak. The old grannies, who might of been closer to their prime in the early 80s.

The Sears is mostly people from SAIT/ACAD either walking through to the food court or walking through pretending to be shoppers so they can park for free and leave through another mall exit to walk over to school.
