Then you wouldn't be changing thread names since you know the people in "our" city call it the evergreen line.

TransLink has more or less confirmed that this will simply become an extension of the Millennium Line and be signed as such. The name "Evergreen Line" is simply a relic from when this was going to be a separate light rail line.

I love rain as much as I'll love taking the evermillenniumgreen line to work when I move to Port Moody.

Believe it or not I was tied with a few other people who suggested the name to TransLink, and got a Thermos. So I am attached to the name too. But it seems clear that while the new section may retain the name in some fashion, the actual train line be the M-line. If it turns out otherwise (M-line being waterfront to Lougheed), we can change the name of the thread again.

For the sake of wayfinding it would make more sense for the train to change the voices to reflect the location when boarding. "Expo and Millennium Line to Surrey" , "Millennium Line and Evergreen Line to Lafarge Lake", and when they get to the switch points that end the interlined parts, "Change trains here for <other interlined train>"

Random strangers who aren't from Metro Vancouver, or don't take the trains very often tend to ask if they're on the right train even if their destination doesn't take them out of the interlined segment.

Interlining is getting really confusing.

When Evergreen extension is opened, Millennium trains will run between VCC and Lafarge. There won't be any "Evergreen trains"
Expo trains will run between Waterfront and King George. Some Expo trains will run from Waterfront to Lougheed and Production to act as the connector between Lougheed and Columbia (connecting the Millennium and Expo mainlines)

When the Broadway and UBC extensions are opened, Millennium trains will run between Arbutus (later, UBC) and Lafarge.

I've stopped counting how often, when waiting at waterfront, someone asks me "when will the Yellow train arrive? All I've seen are the Grey and White trains"

Just think about the original Millennium Line.
Evergreen is Phase II.
The extension to Arbutus (and UBC) will be Phase III.

When I am looking at a new system map, what colours would be used and what would their names be compared to now?

It does not matter what it willed be called. What really matters is what it can do.

once extended to UBC the line will allow for people to live, work, play, learn and medicalize .. all without a car.

Except for a visit downtown (where all the lawyers are) everything you need will be on the line. Three regional centres, two major EDU, several minor EDU, start ups, the major medical centre of the province. .. plus a thousand start ups, just to keep things interesting.

It will be a pipeline for everything.

Want a name suggestion??? how about the "pipeline". The people can say that they live and work "on the pipe".

Okay, it is a little cheeky but in a land where we call our money the "Loonie", it would fit.

Some good dump truck action on site today. They did go last Saturday & Sunday so that's 7 days a week so they must be making some progress..

What they should have on the project website is a spreadsheet or graph with dates since they started drilling and the corresponding number of metres drilled for each day. Along with a Google map with the drill's current location marked. That would really keep the public informed of what was going on with the tunnel.

I meant on a "project" basis.

The Millennium Line was originally to be built from Arbutus to Coquitlam, in phases, then politics got in the way.
Think of what was proposed back then, and that's what it will eventually be.

I don't think the name is excessive. It could be in any Canadian or American city. Sounds colloquially urbanely cool.

I think a lot of people would be happy with a weekly update - eg 'we've drilled x meters this week and the machine is now here' (with a map).

Canada Line (lite blue)
Expo Line (dark blue)
Millennium Line (yellow)
