Nando's is pretty average. I do eat there from time to time, as I work right nearby, but it's not something people will be missing. There's no Mary Brown's downtown though

They do, but it is limited. They have a charcuterie/cheese selection as well as some delicious do-it-yourself pork belly bao ($4 each) that were delicious. Most of the menu is light fare for enjoying while imbibing, not really big enough for a meal.

You really like mary brown? There is one walking distance from my place in the north pointe complex(es). I've eaten there only once or twice, and not more because I found it average. It is classic chain IMHO.

Let me guess you did not have the extra hot at nandos? Yeah, without the heat it is okay, but fire grilled with the heat, and then with a side of the extra hot chicken liver - there isn't anything else like it in Calgary (from what I've had anyway). There are also very few places in the city that serve flame grilled corn on the cob.

I think the reason nobody has commented on the trinadad & tobago roti is that it might not be their tastes, or they just don't care. Just because you like it doesn't mean that everyone else will. Personally I don't find Roti very exciting, and that includes the Roti Hut where I have eaten many times. I don't dislike it but I don't love it either.

Judging by your posts, it appears your palate is very limited. Limited to samosas and foods laced with capiscum from only a few parts of the globe. Unfortunate as there are so many great foods from all over the world. when people are taking about diversity, they are talking about all kinds of stuff...Italian, French, Thai, Greek, Russian, American, Mexican, Japanese, Etc.. not just with Indian/middle eastern food.


And yes, Mary Brown's is a low level fast food chain, but I still like it better than Nando's. I like the potato wedges, so sue me lol.

Wrong. Go ahead and ask me if I'm Jewish then? I've already told people on the forum that I'm of Chinese descent and that I'm not religious. I eat whatever I want, whenever I want, and I can review any kind of restaurant or dish from anywhere in the city. You can't.

We already know that you are a Muslim, and even though you're Ismaili, (you've mentioned it before) you still have to eat Halal to be considered a proper one. You've never actually eaten those dishes have you. In other words you've been bullshitting us about the dishes you've eaten, just to try and win an argument.

I eat at the Roti Hut all the time and like the food, but I doubt anyone cares much about the Roti. Roti in general is boring which is probably why nobody has commented on it. I don't know if like parotta, particularly Kerala Parotta or other south Indian Parotta's. Kinda bland also, but I like them.

Thanks to everyone for the heads up on Proof. I had been there for drinks previously and noted the small-plates menu and the note that it rotated. Drinks there are awesome but I noted that the menu in was the same this time as last time. Sort of frustrating that their philosophy is to not post their menu online because it is constantly changing when in fact it doesn't.

Dinner last night was at Raw Bar. Firstly, the cocktail menu is equally impressive to that of Proof and the prices are $1-$3 less expensive. I really enjoy the food at Raw Bar and the service was phenomenal. It's certainly a hidden gem.

Carribean roti is a complete meal and thus quite different from Indian flat breads, which are not a complete meal.

Dude. Trinidand & Tobago is NOT in Pakistan.

In all honesty, I'm not sure what you're talking about. I've never made such a statement.

I think you need to leave your religion conversation at the door, and if someone on the thread talks first person about eating a particular food, you need to take their word on it.

I'm particularly saddened by someone else on this thread somehow connecting my posts to a murder in Pakistan. That's completely uneducated and uncalled for. It wasn't you, but I highly suspect that your moves to make this discussion about diversity of food to be about religion to have moved things along in that negative and divisive direction.

Oh - and if you haven't tried Nandos, I highly recommend it. try the extra hot chicken - it may move you out of your bubble comfort zone, but I think you'll enjoy it.
