I noticed the "coming soon" sign with a shot of the building render at the new Manitoba Clinic site. Demo is well underway on the gas station which used to be on the site. From glancing at the render while stopped at the light it looks like a parking podium of about five levels with about a 10 story tower on top. Might this warrant having its own thread? I also suspect that once the building is fully commissioned that old Manitoba Clinic will be demolished to make way for something new.

Well, I guess Manitoba Clinic is one answer to the question of where some of the doctors went when they left the MAB... at least it wasn't too far from downtown in this case.

Building itself looks good, it'll be a nice focal point for those arriving at HSC from the south or east. So what will happen to the existing Manitoba Clinic building? Does it get demoed to make way for Cancercare's expansion?

So that is a parkade on the first 5ish floors, right? How many parkades does the hospital require? This will be number 7 from my quick count.

And at least three of them are massive.... I guess HSC is a 100% commuting hub. Too bad the surrounding area wasn't a more inviting place for people to live...

My wife has worked there for almost 40 years and has never owned a parking spot!

There are a lot of students who bike and take transit to HSC too. Are there still nurses living in residence?

Cancercare was suppose to get the old school of nursing that is directly across the street from it...but i heard that idea got scrapped due to budget. So yea maybe they might scoop up MBclinic??

There is no official nurses' residence anymore. There are 'medical apartments' on Notre Dame (West of Emily St).

FYI, I gave up my parking spot after moving downtown last year and walk to work. I'm saving almost $1000/yr in parking costs alone!

Looks like there's parking, with the new offices on top. In the render Cyro posted, it says Park Flr 1.

First, the location is Sherbroke at Notre Dame on the location of the former Shell station (now demolished) and on the existing surface lot just north of there.

Actually Manitoba Clinic (current) would predate the Medical Arts (current). Manitoba Clinic looks like it dropped straight out of the 1950s. I would suspect the new building will hold all the existing tenants and have space for additional tenants when it is opened.

In terms of the current Manitoba Clinic building, I have not heard any specific plans but a complete demo may make the most sense. You can rehab any building if you want to put enough cash into it but this is a high demand area and that prime piece of land will quickly find a new purpose, perhaps as part of a revised plan for CancerCare.
