Well, that is a bit more sensitive, but they are of the notion that our perception is not necessarily reality. Perhaps coercion but not necessarily coercion.
Unless it is a safety issue (driving a car, security at the airport, etc.) I would rather give the benefit of the doubt to those wearing the niqab/veil. In my classes, I have a couple of graduate students that wear some form of veil (and many others with a headscarf), and it makes no difference to me whatsoever.
There was a time when, upon the death of their husband and thereafter, many women would dress like this.
