I was just browsing the retail job listings on the interweb (which often gives clues as to what might be going on down the road), and Mode Choc has a couple of new job listings on line. This would tend to suggest that they are not planning on imminently closing. Maybe they'll wait and see what happens during the Christmas season before deciding, or maybe the rumour was spurious to begin with.

In any event, I was at the Mapleton Centre on the weekend to go to PetSmart, and it was actually difficult finding a good parking spot!

The main cause of this activity seemed to be Party City and DSW. Both stores were very busy, but there was a lot of spillover to other tenants as well. In particular, I think Banana Republic and Osh Kosh both were seeing increased traffic.

Well, all the timber work is now indeed stained.

In addition. they have resurfaced the whole parking area in front of the store in the last 48 hours. BPS now looks good to go.......

Only two more days to the grand opening. Usually I wait a few days before checking out a new store (or going to a newly released blockbuster movie). I think I'll make an exception this time around.

There is some earth moving going on today at the future site of Plaza 599 on Mapleton Road (at the corner of Lady Ada).

A gas station/Timmie's/convenience store had been approved for that corner, but the earth movers are working in behind this area. Does anyone have any ideas?

I drove by on Sunday and they were blowing the dust/sand off the parking lot with leaf blowers.

When we went by it looked like early prep to make less loads of dirt to haul out but... Talk to some friends and there where pointing out that a new hotel & Restaurant seems to be on the horizon for the area. As I said before it's all just hear say from friends who happen to be working on the site at that time, and sometimes there way off. One group said Hotel & Restaurant, and another group said possibly a new Strip mall with pre-signed tenants

Another hotel would be surprising. The Sheraton across the street is part of this same development project.

For anyone who forgot, this was the site plan for Plaza 599:

Given the fact there's supposed to be a gas station/convenience store/Tim Horton's at the front of the development, it would seem that this site plan is no longer valid.

I would be surprised to see another hotel here too, given the Sheraton and the Hampton Inn are so handy, but you never know........

I see on Facebook that Cadilac Fairview re-branded Champlain Place to CF Champlain hope this re-branding will help in attracting new tenants.

And its exiting news for PLAZA 599 if they can start building a new strip mall with tenants already confirmed for that space. Does anybody know who the potential tenants might be and the name of the hotel that could be built there. And with that news it would be a prime area to put a established outlet center there.

Also I was at Mapleton Center on Saturday and its nice to see that parking lot full and I hope with DSW and party city and the increased traffic there that they will be able to fill in the vacant storefronts there and hope that a new restaurant will be built on the pad next to sleep country.

Yes they Re-branded all there shopping centers with CF in front of the name. I was watching BT Toronto, and they had put that out there Majority of Torontonians where either indifferent to the idea, or angry.

I had completely forgot that this plan ever existed. But since you brought it up with the second thing that was brought to my attention they might be going with this plan still with a bit of a redesign I don't think Building A will be built unless they flip Building A, B, and C around to have building C (Gas station, tims, and convenience store) towards the front and Push building A, D, and E to the right so they would all fit on that land. On that plan Lady Ada Blvd. is a straight Road but according to both Google map, and GeoNB Lady Ada Blvd. Curves to the Right just after The Hotel, and potential building E.

(Building B was supposed to be a strip mall in the first plans)

Buildings "D" & "E" are actually behind the Four Points Sheraton. The site plan postulates an extension of Lady Ada. If you look carefully at the site plan, the curved roadway behind the hotel still exists. At some point in the far future, it will be extended too and will intersect Louis J Robichaud Blvd.

from the CF Champlain Facebook page:

BTW - are we supposed to stop calling the mall Champlain Place? The new moniker (CF Champlain) doesn't really flow off the tongue very well........

Just to be clear - Stephan is referring to the Sobeys development on Filles de Jesus (an extension on the main building for an NBLC, and two buildings on the south side of Filles de Jesus, likely a coffee shop/fast food restaurant with a drive thru and a small strip mall).

It might be to get it done quicker but we seen workers there Friday,Saturday, and Sunday. Might have been to remove the paneling on the side of the building... The more work that is being done the more it looks to me like there going to do the same as Plaza Blvd Walmart, and have the Mechanics bays on the side (Visible, out of the way, and room to park the cars) For this Canadian Tire store anyway.

I talked to a few staff at the Dieppe location, and they think an expansion would be needed there as well, but they would have to find a new property, or take up the parking lot to do it.

Well, today's the day for BPS. Is anyone else thinking of going (aside from me) or does everyone value their lives too highly.

On CBC radio the Codiac Transpo traffic guy predicted BPS will be a triple hot spot later today.

The store will still be there tomorrow. And next week/month/year.

Hopefully their prices are less ridiculous than Cabela's.
