peanut gallery - Thanks for the scoop. My first impression is squat, but I still like it. Reminds me of a Frank Gehry bldg. As it is preliminary design, it will be interesting to see what the final product looks like.

Yes, it will be interesting to see how it comes through the approval process. Someone will probably complain about losing their views from the freeway or something. But I like where they're at so far.

That's what I thought too! The massing and twisting shape remind me of the IAC Building in NYC. I like this one a lot better though. This will be an iconic building if it is constructed as proposed.
Over in nearby Berkeley. Seems like it will have some impact on the area.

18-Story Berkeley Building Slated For Approval This Week
Quote:
It has been nearly three years since the plans for an 18-story building with over 300 apartments, a new multi-screen cinema, and multiple restaurant and retail spaces to rise at 2211 Harold Way in Downtown Berkeley were first proposed.
And in a special meeting this Wednesday, September 30, the development could be approved by Berkeley’s Zoning Adjustments Board, as is recommended by Berkeley’s Planning Department.
The Environmental Impact Report for the development was certified in June and the refined designs for the project, which shifted the building mass to address “urban design concerns about views” and added more glass for contrast, were presented last month.
If approved, the Residences at Berkeley Plaza project will rise up to 180-feet behind the historic Shattuck Hotel, with 302 apartments, a ten-screen theater, 177 underground parking spaces and nearly 11,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space, including a 340-square-foot outdoor dining area at the corner of Harold and Kittredge.
^^Chris - don't worry about having it moved. We've been discussing that one in the Bay Area thread for a little while now. It can just sit here, no harm done. Or you can delete it if you prefer. Appreciate the effort, though!

Sorry I don't have a pic but just want to report there is FINALLY significant structural progress on Market Street Place, lots of steel now poking up over the fence on Market Street!
So excited about this one, not from an architectural perspective but for what it will do for that stretch of Market.
