It used to be Lincoln Park Hospital. I think they closed back in 2008. It is weird it's being billed as New Construction. I did walk by them a few months ago and the building was totally gutted out like they did with 1K Fulton. Their building permits received were actually new construction ones, not renovation ones.

Or perhaps he plans to open up an actual museum operation at some point.
Looks like the Michigan Avenue side will have the showroom and offices while the garage takes over several floors along Wabash (with new green roofs topping both). Goettsch is the architect.

I don't really have any objections housing an extensive (and probably expensive) private car collection in an old car showroom building along Motor Row.

PDNA mentioned that the owners of 2300 S Indiana are looking to convert the building into a 200+ room extended stay hotel.

Just to clarify is this only a private "closed to the public" museum or will it be open to the public to view the cars, but owned by a private person? I've been to several car and tractor museums which were basically a rich guys toy collection, but you could still pay to see the cars.

I hope they save the Lindsay Light. Build on those nasty garages instead.

We're not sure yet. In its current location, it's hosted a few private events. This will certainly raise the visibility of the collection, and my guess is that it will be open to the public in some form. Does that mean 10 hours every day with an entry cashier and a full staff of security? Maybe not.

IIRC, the Driehaus [house] Museum evolved from being open for special events and tours to being open full time.

The old facade is gone, they've got it stripped down to bare floor plates.

It's been gutted and more or less stagnant for like four years. Meanwhile the developer keeps denying ongoing rumors that Webster Square has financial issues.

Underrated museum BTW. I highly recommend it.

The mansion? Meh - my friend had a birthday party there once. Most of us thought it was pretty damn boring - even the older people really into that type of stuff

Id like to see it, but have never gone as $20 seems pricey just to walk around an old mansion (esp considering AIC is the same price for adults and offers far more of an educational benefit)

If youre into old mansions and museums though, the Surgical Sciences museum off of LSD is a total trip.

The Stephens Family / Academy of Art San Francisco collection is open to the general public, I believe, for only several hrs a week. And even then, only 55 of the 200+ cars in the collection are viewable. Also, fittingly, located in a classic auto dealership. Perhaps a similar limited viewing model will be instituted at some point.

That's fine, but I think it's really not worth the price. I thought I'd love it too based on the reviews but eh. The only cool thing I thought was the study/den. There were a lot of cool pieces of art and Tiffany stuff, but overall it was a boring tour. I remember being shown the kitchen and the basement and being asked to imagine servants doing this and that in both places as both areas didn't have much in the present.

I've been to historical sites all over the world and thought this was one of the most boring historic places I've ever been. I will give credit to Driehaus though - he has a lot of nice artwork, furniture, etc in that mansion.

University selects Diller Scofidio + Renfro to design Rubenstein Forum
OCTOBER 5, 2015

The University of Chicago has announced that Diller Scofidio + Renfro (DS+R), an international design firm based in New York City, will design the David M. Targeted for completion in 2018, the Rubenstein Forum will host conferences, workshops, lectures, ceremonies and other gatherings. It is named for University Trustee David M. The only residential building that remained on the Midway was demolished back in September 2013 where this new project is proposed.

The intact image of the building is from the web and the demolition pictures i took.

^ Is the the same area that the South Works fantasy/proposal is envisioned for? If so, this is terribly disappointing, it looks like an outlet mall.
