Wonder if they are waiting till they absolutely need it to allow the Hilton cranes full swing radius.

I just checked out the Lego model of the new library, housed in the lobby of the central library. It's awesome!

EV is changing at an incredible pace. I can't imagine how this place will look in 5 years.

Agreed; my supposition is that it will be unrecognizable.

This looks really different from the renderings. I thought the glass panel design would be with the snowflake motif. Plus it looks like they added some huge concrete element on the lower right side. What happened to the atrium? This is terrible. Silly hall.

Looking at the render and the encapsulated tunnel, the stairs leading up to the building will be bigger than I thought ... Can't wait to see it all come together

A new website has been set up for the New Central Library. One of the things I found interesting was the timeline has been posted. Of note:

Q1 2016 - Concrete cores complete for the library
Q2 2016 - Steel installation begins and additional cranes will be brought on site
Q4 2016 - Steel structure will be complete as well as the cladding for the south side will be fully installed.
Q1 2017 - Cladding to be complete on east and west exteriors.
Q2 2017 - Interior construction and finishings start
Q3 2017 - Wood soffit underbelly is installed.
Q2 2018 - Interior construction is complete.
Q3 2018 - Library move in begins
Q4 2018 - Opening day.

Great to think that in about a year the exterior will be more or less complete on this iconic building except for the wood soffit underbelly which should be an interesting process to watch be completed!

Some new (and old) renders are also available on the site as well as an interactive map that includes all 5 levels of the library:

Wow, Q4 2018.. which will probably bleed into 2019. This is a long-ass project

Worth it though
