I'm going out on a limb here , but .....

Historical population
Year Pop. ±%

1900 1,293,697 +23.6%
1910 1,549,008 +19.7%
1920 1,823,779 +17.7%
1930 1,950,961 +7.0%
1940 1,931,334 −1.0%
1950 2,071,605 +7.3%
1960 2,002,512 −3.3%
1970 1,948,609 −2.7%
1980 1,688,210 −13.4%
1990 1,585,577 −6.1%
2000 1,517,550 −4.3%
2010 1,526,006 +0.6%
2014 1,560,297 +2.2%

Not that it can be confirmed but if this data is factual , the 2015 population should be right around
1,569,000 .

If I did the math right , it should rise to about 1,610,000 by the 2020 census .
A slow but steady improvement gives rise to increased enthusiasm .
Not a bad return for a city that struggled for some fifty years .

My god, that drop between 1970 and 1980, wow.

Go to any other big city (miami, nyc, toronto, san fran, chicago etc) except for maybe boston and they have many similar blocks downtown

Delaware River waterfront to open new pier park

Opening of Pier 68 Park. Small tidbits about Festival Pier redevelopment and the cap over I-95 but not much new info.

Fantastic Article
-About the Pope weekend and really directed at the media and Negadelphians. This is why I will miss Nutter. Hope the next mayor is a fraction as good as him, but I have my doubts.

Quote:
The mayor brushed aside laments from businesses about the weekend as entirely missing the point of the pope's visit. He seemed to be responding directly to critiques leveled by restauranteurs such as Stephen Starr and Marc Vetri.

"The weekend was a spectacular success for us, notwithstanding long lines, security restrictions or how much money people made. I mean, are you serious? The pope comes here, he talks about poverty, inequality, and capitalism, and folks are complaining that they didn't make enough money from pilgrims who are sleeping on folks' living room floors and eating sandwiches," Nutter said. "Now I'm sorry if you didn't have enough of them come in to sell all your pecan crusted salmon with basmati rice, but that wasn't this crowd. This was a spiritual, holy event. That's what they came for. They're not conventioneers. That was not the purpose of this event, and for our purposes it was never touted as such."

But taking a broader view, this was a deeply memorable event for hundreds of thousands of people. And anecdotally, it looks as though the world thought Philadelphia looked pretty damn good when the time came for its closeup.

"Sometimes people see things in us that we take for granted," Nutter told me. "Sometimes the glass is actually a little more than half full."

Nashville developer selected to build first UCity Square apartment building

Quote:
Southern Land Co. has been selected to develop the first residential building planned for the University City Science Center campus-expansion project known as uCity Square, a company official said.

The Nashville-based developer will soon begin design work on the roughly 300-unit, five- or six-story apartment building at 3700 Lancaster Ave., said Dustin Downey, director of multifamily development.

Downey spoke Wednesday at the unveiling of the company's 3601 Market apartment project, the first residential building on the campus's existing footprint. Southern Land is also planning a residential tower at 1911 Walnut St. beside Rittenhouse Square.

Good for them. Seems the owner came to Philly and fell in love and now wants to invest more into the city. They're doing a lot here and in Nashville itself as well as Colorado and Texas it seems.

I hope they keep betting on Philly! If they can manage to get 1911 Walnut built, I'll have a ton of faith in them. 3601 Market is a nice addition, and obviously any development company is going to be pretty siked when Wexford Science and Technology, one of the largest REIT's in the country and THE largest medical/lab REIT wants to hire you for more development on one of their projects and what will amount to one of the largest research parks in the country. Hope SLC continues their success here!

What building? Cira II or 1911 Walnut? 1911 Walnut is looking likely to be 560 feet.

Spent all day today touring investors/developers. One from Philly and one from outside the state.

Can't divulge too much more info but expect two more announcements within the coming months. One will be strictly residential/retail and the other residential, office and retail mixed-use.

Ya, Nutter really puts it in perspective. My job takes me to DR Congo often, and I have friends there who were watching the mass live, broadcast on Congolese state TV who told me how how beautiful and "dignified" Philadelphia looked. Imagine how many tens or hundreds of millions of people saw it throughout the world. That will definitely pay dividends for us.

2 more announcements, I assume of a pretty high caliber? I know you can't be specific, but...of a scale closer to FMC or closer to One Riverside?

Not FMC size but one in the ~300 foot range and one in the ~400 foot range based on small conversations and info I picked up on throughout the day.

Boston doesn't get a pass. Chinatown in Boston is definitely suspect.

Along with your former post , i.e. " one 300' +/- and one 400' +/- " , is it safe to assume
some sketch , rendering , elevation or blue prints already exist ??
Just wondering if you have been privy to that information , but bound by a code of ethics .
............... Just wondering
