Yeah, but even with my pocket computer that is automatically synced to the atomic clock i still always look up at clocks anyways for some reason. I kinda like it. IF they can actually make the rest of the building look close to that picture...then this is not bad at all.

I find the Marshall Fields and the Central Office clock towers very useful and convenient. I can see how it can be convenient in a central location like Milwaukee, for cyclists in particular.

right exactly my fear. i have nothing against classically inspired buildings, but they never turn out well, and its because of what you cited. i seriously doubt the level of crafstmanship theyre trying to imply in that rendering will come through at all.

it all comes down to budget and the client. Antunovich did the reliance building. theyre not incapable of doing good work. but is that kind of money and attention to detail going to be directed at a new development in Logan Square? doubtful.

I think I like that mega mall design, but it's hard to tell with a watercolor. Probably precast, but if it was real brick I'd swoon. Remember that material? Brick? Made out of dirt or something. You used to use it to build things. It was in all the papers.

quality would be to have a glass window behind that clock, allowing the owner to look through the machinery to outside.

developers have no balls in chicago though. too cheap.

Then make the clock of its time. Have it broadcast information particular to the community. Don't append the same nealy one-millennium-old design to it as an idiot's haven of nostalgia and security.

There are always problems applying historic brick detailing to modern construction. The problem is modern construction.

A lot of the vernacular of old masonry. things like recessed areas, soldier coursing, houndstooth panels and corbeling, which did not present a problem when walls were 12" thick solid masonry, are weak spots when they are applied to a single wythe curtain wall several stories tall.

It's not impossible, but it requires a thousand innovative solutions in a job this big.

Totally argee with how you feel about Antunovich. That Bernardin building is maybe top thing most piece of shit things built in the last 20 years.

That being said... this actually looks like a step of from the previous Dallas-looking-shit design. Idk, I could be wrong, and it could end up looking like value engineered shit. But the brick is a welcomed design change imo.

Also, I didn't notice the clock at first glance... really silly, I 100% agree.

Clocks can be cool, but I have my doubts about this one.

Looking at the rendering, I thought it was a large circular window with some ornate detailing, which I think would probably be more interesting than a boring clock slapped on it.
