This article is old but sounds interesting.

For those who don't know sbe is known for dumping huge amounts of money for hotels.

That could just be where the pin goes when they set the location as "Chicago" in their online map thing. State and Madison is the cartographic center of the city.

And as I read a lot of news about the city and some other message boards, there's always this negative news (and much positive too, don't get me wrong). It's always great to get away from this and walk around for hours. It's days like this where I fully realize how beautiful this city really can be and how much potential it truly has.

I had the exact same experience this weekend with a guy visiting from Buenos Aires. He was in love with the city. And seeing the places I always see and thinking of seeing it for the first time was really refreshing. He could not get enough of the new river walk, and he was astounded by how grand and beautiful the museum campus is (and that the lakefront is open). We also went to Fulton/Randolph and ate a ton of good food.

^Early on in construction, and looks like a lot has changed since the renderings for the N. Broadway infill. In addition to the apparent change in ground floor use, the cantilevered corner has been removed and a masonry column has been introduced mid-bay on the north side of the ground floor. Curious to see how this design actually turns out now.

I don't think that's a column.

I think you are looking through an opening on the wall separating the garage from the lobby, and seeing a masonry wall beyond.

I don't believe there was ever a cantilevered corner--only the illusion of such from the brickwork and/or the recess in the side that looks to be for FAR/code requirements. Unless there is an elevation/drawing of this you have seen otherwise. Elevations in the zoning application don't show any cantilevers.

I'm talking about the brick faced pier that's half built at the end of the CMU wall separating the lobby from the retail/community center space. According to the 46th Ward website and Jibba there is no longer any garage at the street front of the building and no curb cut, which are both good news. I'm just hoping since there were design changes to the first floor, and our rendering is now out of date, that the upper floors have not changed for the worst at least.

Anyway, the last I saw were the type 1 zoning docs. First floor had a token 640 ft commercial space and garage. Still entering from the front. It's a landlocked parcel and the only way around that would be to wave the parking. If they had waited for the new TOD ord they could have done that.

Studio Dwell is still the architect listed on the permit, so I've got to imagine this will be handsome even if watered-down from the original renderings.

As PK notes, the parcel has no alley access. There's no way to avoid a curb cut if you are providing parking, and the permit says they are building parking.

50 townhomes of $750K each proposed for a vacant lot at Cortland and Campbell. Neighbors say there's a "gang problem" there and hope this helps fix it. This is a block or so away from the Western Blue Line stop.
