It's public property. People like this can go pound sand, or buy a house with a driveway if they want.

Obviously if there are neighbourhood parking restrictions or if somene has mobility issues and gets a restricted space in front of their house then that's a different ballgame. But this kind of nonsense is best ignored.

I don't know where this sense of entitlement to the spot in front of one's house comes from. Doesn't matter if you put a sign out front or you shovel a path to it through the snow in the winter, it isn't yours.

Agreed. Such a bizarre attitude. For the many people in central Toronto who don't have access to laneway parking and rely on street permits it can feel like hitting the jackpot when there is actually a space in front of your house! Or within 100m of it...

I kind of understand why people may act like this in Calgary or other places that don't rely quite so heavily on street parking. So many people have private garages / on-property parking that the idea of having to walk a block to park seems unheard of. While they would never say anything, my parents seem horrified when someone dares to even park in front of their house. And their 2 cars fit comfortably in the garage and actually stay there when not in use.

I was completely, blissfully unaware that this attitude even existed until not long after I moved into my neighbourhood about 6 years ago and a guest came over to visit... when he went back to his car halfway down the block, he found that someone left an angry expletive-filled note under his wiper telling him not to park in front of their house. What kind of mouth-breather does something so stupid?

People are nuts in Toronto. I've been told countless times I can't park in front of their house. A neighbour down the street even smashed my driver side window. Found out two years later when he was caught doing it to another car. That sucked but, the rest was always loads of fun.

At first I thought this was posted just for the guy in the picture. The sign makes it a double whammy.

Yeah, even before I owned by own house I always knew that anyone can park on the street in front of any house. (In the absence of city signs stating otherwise.)

The idea that the street in front of your belongs to you is just so alien to me.

I mean, if you have a lawn you don't even own all of that as there is an "easement" (is that the right word?) that extends some distance onto your property that belongs to the city and can be used for utilities, etc. On my property, it's at least 2-3 metres in from the curb, covers a good chunk of my front lawn and actually comes quite close to the main tree I have in front of my house.

The latest status update on this pile of crap in Calgary's oldest neighbourhood (Inglewood). It's too bad we can't grow vines here is that is the only solution besides a giant tarp to fix this thing.

I don't mind it. It's just a pity when buildings like this are in areas that make them a focal point when, say if that was tucked away along some lane in a downtown, it'd just be background noise.

Location is so important. The Rooms was supposed to be down on the waterfront and the fake posts making it "look like" (it wasn't effective) it's in water would've actually been so. It'd be far less offensive, far less... of a focal point. Some people might even like it as an oddity then.
