Nothing to fear here.
Yeah I understand that. I just wanted to point out the insanity that would be Broadway if we were shortsighted enough to build LRT instead of subway.

It wouldn't be on Broadway anyway. It would be on 8th or 10th.

that's impossible. both of those streets are already only 3 cars wide. LRT would make them 0 cars wide. with above ground SkyTrain you might get 2 car width if you're lucky. good luck convincing all the people living on those street to have a train about 5-10 feet from their windows.

As relief for overcrowding on the line, if they did cut and cover on 10th maybe they could put an underground active transportation corridor ON TOP of the subway, with exit points at the stations. With 2 layers of this there could even be WIND ASSIST a la that Toronto hamster tube plan. This could supplement and make less hectic the existing 10th Ave bike route.

The Liberals are promising to keep the conservative promise of $1.5 billion for the Calgary C-train Green line if they are elected. So that is good news if you were worried about what would happen to major projects not yet started with vague funding promises (like the Broadway Subway) if the Liberals unseat the Conservatives.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/trudeau-calgary-transit-flood-mitigation-pledge-1.3230362

(I only wish our provincial politicians would act that way. If they stayed the course on Skytrain and didn't waiver when changing power, only to go back to Skytrain, we would probably have an extra project completed by now).

But I must have been away, because I didn't realize they were going to do the whole thing, with LRT right off the bat, and that it is going to cost $4.6 billion. And there are still a lot of questions, like if they are going under downtown, or how they are crossing the river (new/old bridge or tunnel). Yet, they still got solid enough commitment from the government to go ahead. Last I heard it was going to be a 30 year plan. Crazy.

If they are spending that much on a 40km of LRT, that reaches 290,000 Calgarians and is currently used by 43,000 transit riders, the feds should spend that much on Vancouver, even though it is more than 1/3 of the $1.9 billion price tag of our system.

Progress?

Broadway near Heather was clogged up today because of a drilling rig in the middle of the road.

Looks to me like core samples are being done, and it also suggests that Broadway is the chosen route (not 8th or 10th).

^Following that, does anybody know if anything ever happened to those RFPs that TransLink put out for the Broadway Line and Surrey LRT?

There could be a million reasons why drilling is occurring.

The Broadway line is no closer to being done that it was in 2002.

You can't just play with men's hearts like that. I'd rather live in ignorance than anticipation!

Yes, money is about to rain down from the sky.

The reason Evergreen is delayed is because the boring machine was secretly moved under Broadway. In fact, the line is 75% complete as we speak...

When the drilling was first mentioned, my first thought was that anything could be happening. But when jlousa says something, I get curious.

True. And I'm sure there are always negotiations going on, but that also doesn't mean anything is imminent. It's just the way government works...

Regardless of how far West the Broadway line is going, hooking it up with the Canada Line is essential.

A lot of the B-Line traffic gets off at the Cambie/Broadway station not only if trying to get to Richmond/YVR but also due to the huge employment base of the area such as City Hall and VGH.

Question................when building the Broadway Canada Line station did they make any allowances for a Millenium Line or did they plan for the future as well as they did with the rest of the line?

"if the Millennium Line is extended from its current terminus at VCC–Clark Station west to Arbutus Street or UBC, this station will become a transfer point to the new service. A "knock-out" panel was installed on the station's mezzanine level to provide a cross connection to the Millennium Line platforms (either under 10th Avenue or under Broadway)."

I can't elaborate, obviously... The project while not imminent is much more further ahead today then it was in 2002 and I expect more information to be made public within the next 12months.
