Broadstone Terraces looks to be digging deep enough that all parking will be underground. So much for the typical excuse that it is too expensive to do underground parking

It may be that rents are getting high enough to justify underground parking.

Different sites...different conditions....they didn't have to blast here because of the need for only 2-3 levels of parking underneath and it's further away from the ridge of granite on Peachtree than other sites...not to mention there are height restrictions on this side of Juniper since it's a transitional zone.

That may be true but it also looked to me like Hanover West Peachtree is also digging deep enough to do most if not all underground parking as well. That's at the old Checkers location; would that site not be where the ridge is

I was thinking of the transparency, not the size... it will be interesting to see what they come up with. I've never seen glass that clear on a modern building.

I noticed they took down the power lines along Juniper. I wonder if they're planning to remove those poles? There are still cable/telephone lines on them.

I just don't automatically associate green diamond shapes with Kermit, the Frog, and I don't know who does. If, they wanted to be tacky, perhaps they should have used water lilies or toad stools, which demonstrates that while form should follow function, the facade of the building should not be used as a subliminal billboard.

Legacy seems to be getting serious about their 285 Marietta Street proposal as they've put up a large "Build to Suit" sign in front of the lot.

They also recently made indications they were moving forward with their hotel proposal next door behind Hilton Garden Inn, so it looks like they're ready to start investing Downtown again.

The base for the new crane is set, so not too much longer, probably.

Atlanta negotiating sale of civic center | AJC

Quote:
Texas-based developer Weingarten Realty has entered final negotiations to acquire the Atlanta Civic Center for a mixed-use development

The board of Invest Atlanta, the city’s development arm, voted Thursday to enter into final negotiations for a sale of the civic center and about 19 acres of land for $30 million.

Weingarten’s Atlanta office is expected to lead a project involving office space, retail, restaurants and residences.

The city announced plans to sell the civic center earlier this year, but a prior effort to sell it was delayed and the process recently restarted. Check back later for more details on this developing story

Wow, now we know in what direction the civic center is going: upscale retail strip, similar likely to what's at Lindbergh.

The very fact that they are digging as opposed to blasting granite reveas that there is enough soil on that site to do an underground deck. The Hanover site is also at a higher elevatio than Peachtree which is logical if there is more soil at the surface above the granite.

I also saw a crane base down there at Hanover, then rode over to Modera and sure enough there it is in the middle.

Hopefully with the Civic Center redevelopment, they can create a new street grid or something. Talk about a super block.

The hole they've dug for the Hanover West Peachtree site is INSANELY deep! If they can put parking underground here, right beside a huge granite vein, they should be able to swing it anywhere.

Meanwhile, the development on West Peachtree and 14th is gaining some serious height!

I think I remember seeing a rendering on here for that last year, no?

Civic Center Redevelopment

Hopefully it's not like a Fuqua Special with big box stores and bland apartments surrounding a big parking lot. That would be a tragedy.
