Probably because the food will be bland and overpriced.
the best design for this would have just clad the box the same way the original was done, but use high quality reflective glass and making the street level more interactive. it would have been clean and simple.

It should have been torn down and rebuilt as two towers with a diagonal high-street across the site.

The tops floors are steel framed and couldn't even support a green roof, so I doubt they could add many more floors.
The Nordstrom signs are nice, but it's like putting lipstick on a pig.
The building is not without it's problems, but I think it looks much better since the signage went up and merchandise can be seen through the windows. Somehow making the function more obvious has made the form less of an issue, at least for me.
I'm not particularly a fan of the final product, but to those commenting that it should've been torn down and towers put on the site: it was never going to happen for a variety of reasons...get over it! Likewise if it was relatively straightforward to add more floors they would've done it.

Agreed. My only real issue is with the colour of the spandrel, which like the rest of the design blends in more with the final signage and merchandising. Overall, it's been quite successful in improving that area and adding some style.
I am fine with them occupying Robson Square for the fashion show, but how are they able to close down Robson Street as well? It's just a department store opening...
