Travis County already owns a decent backup location for a new courthouse on land adjacent to Highland Mall in an area well serviced by express highways and other transit options. I doubt seriously that they would decide to build in an area east of downtown instead of using this second option which has already been considered in the past. Zimmerman must have spiked Ora's kool aid or got her salivating at the prospect of more county jobs on the east side. Still, county commissioners are not going to like being second guessed by city council members. Zimmerman will make a few new enemies in high places with this proposal. I must say that Zimmerman is showing himself to be rather skilled at grabbing headlines, and he'll almost certainly try to take credit for any change in plans that may transpire in the months ahead. I think the courhouse ballot proposition is pretty much DOA.

Re: 219 West 4th! That is some basement excavation. What is going in here when it is finished? Another club with roofdeck? They are spending some big bucks on it.

I see they downsize it by several floors. But nonetheless still glad it's moving forward.

This is pretty cool - turn the unfriendly One Congress Plaza into a walkable area.

I forget, does One Congress Plaza even have ramps into the plaza? Wouldn't it be required by law to have them? I know there's an entrance on the Brazos side, but those are through loading docks so there's even a few steps there as well. The plaza space is amazing and could be utilized much better. It's basically a park on Congress.

Has this already been posted? The developer for that 800 Congress hotel that got shot down is putting in a 2-story building with office and rooftop deck. If it's been posted, please direct me to it. Heck, I could have posted a link previously and wouldn't remember! haha

I also finally noticed the Austin Food Bank on South Congress is going to move east next year, and their 5 acre site and building are now on the market for $5.3 million.

Wow, that's a lotta dough for 5 acres in one of the most desolate parts of town. Around 2004, I bought 5 gorgeous acres with a house, 2 cottages, horse stable, and a pond, for $214,000. But it was a few miles SW of Lockhart. Location, elocution, electrician.

Not to steer the topic away, but Lockhart is way cheap. We went down there for something on Craigslist a year or so ago, and the guy we were buying from mentioned the property next door was his. He said he bought the lot for $1,500. It was an old neighborhood maybe 3 blocks from downtown Lockhart.

See this post from February 13, 2015. The first image is when they were tearing down Hickory Street Bar & Grill at 800 Congress. The second image is the rendering of what's planned.

The hotel would have been built on two adjacent lots - 800 Congress (Hickory Street Bar & Grill) and 804 Congress (The Bosche-Hogg Building)

Here's the thread for the hotel which would have been called The Austin Hotel.

This is an example of why I would never trust high property values in Austin the way I do in places like coastal California --- high prices in Austin exist in a spatial bubble, which to me is just as risky as a temporal bubble.

This doesn't offer much info, but they're definitely planning something. The document says it's by Aspen Heights.

Here's a new high rise project - Block 87. It's a vision now but the owners are looking for development proposals. Renderings are included with the statesman article:
