Any idea of just how much of a footprint or are they simply going to leave Hospira's facilities as is here?

Shoal Creek News

Today crews took an existing 20-inch water line out of service. Once this line is abandoned, we will remove the exposed section from Shoal Creek next week. We can then enter the Phase 1 work area, between West Avenue and Fourth Street and do a large portion of the creek bed repairs.

We are still getting the area readied to install the piers for the bridge foundation. We should have things in place within two weeks. Scheduling is still being finalized with the drilling company.

Please note: When we do start drilling the piers, we will have a sizeable drill rig and crane at the intersection of Fourth and Rio Grande. We will have much of this intersection closed or greatly reduced during this period. This is still at least two to three weeks away, but please be aware that this is coming.

A couple of side note items, the pedestrian bridge along West Avenue is currently closed to limit access to the work site, which is a safety issue. There is an exposed electrical conduit that requires inspection.

This City is also looking to keep an existing limestone block wall and MSE (Mechanically Stabilized Earth) wall that is behind 404 Rio Grande. We had planned to remove it to relocate a section of new wastewater line, but we are considering alternatives. If we do not remove this structure, we may have additional funds to spend on enhancing the area with more grass and plantings in the area and along Shoal Creek.

It looks like Dream Hotels has scaled back their expansion plans. They no longer have Austin, San Franciso, Seattle, Dallas and Chicago listed as coming soon. But they have added a location in one of my favorite cities: Phuket.
(Phuket is a city in Thailand).

http://www.dreamhotels.com/default-en.html

This was the only hotel brand that I know of that was listing a hotel as coming soon to Austin without a defined location. With so many hotels in the pipeline, I wonder what brands they will be?

Significant facility and process upgrades have occured at the site but no mention of expansion in Austin will happen for the time being.

I'm not sure what any of you guys do for a living but I work for an asphalt company here in town and we are installing a stamped asphalt crosswalk at Circuit of the Americas next Thursday, 9/10. If you are interested in learning more about the process or work for a company that could use such a thing, I'd be happy to answer any questions.

It's a thermoplastic that is embedded into the asphalt. It wears better than pavers and is seamless so you don't get the weeds and whatnot growing down the line. It's high visibly and slip resistant so it's perfect for downtown, school zones, and other high traffic areas.

Check out the website for more info and some pictures are below.

Is it cost prohibitive for something like a rural driveway? (Not a typical residential 30' driveway.)

These are great. We had them installed all over downtown Indianapolis along the Cultural Trail. Because they're sunken in, they're wear very well (even Indy snowplows don't take them out), and they add a little texture which helps blind folks navigate along the crosswalks.

I heard the tail end of a story last night on the radio...The Broken Spoke's days are numbered?!? It sounded like the owners of the land are pushing the historic venue out to be replaced by more units and/or retail.

I would definitely never be considered a NIMBY...but, in this case, I could be. LEAVE THE SPOKE ALONE.

I'll try digging up more about this story.

Has anyone else heard about this possible travesty?

Not that it means anything, but this was posted by The Spoke on their facebook page:

Broken Spoke

August 28 at 7:03am

The Broken Spoke is NOT Closing! The rumor wagon is at full speed since a poorly worded article was written in the Austin Biz Journal. The 704 has been sold to a new owner...that's it! We get to stay right where we are for as long as we want! We are an Austin icon and we ain't changin' nothin'! I've written several times the last few days but I'll say it again...if you love Austin iconic landmarks, like the Broken Spoke, the best thing you can do is come out and have some drinks, eat some Chicken Fried Steak and pay cover to see the most talented bands and musicians in Austin and the whole State of Texas! Austin is changing and if you don't want to lose what makes this city great, then cherish all of these gems that are no place else except Austin, Texas! Thank you on behalf of my family!

Okay. Good. Sorry for the scare. Just heard the "news" last night and I have not had time to research the story to see if it was true or not.

Thank God The Spoke is stayin'!

Contemporary Austin to renovate its Congress Avenue museum building

Posted: 9:01 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, 2015

By Jeanne Claire van Ryzin - American-Statesman Staff

The Contemporary Austin plans a $3 million renovation of its downtown location at Congress Avenue and Seventh Street, museum officials told the American-Statesman.

The project, which will be announced Sunday, will add a dramatic canopy roof to the architecturally distinctive Jones Center building as well as add to its gallery space through a reconfiguration of the first floor.

smart move ! Makes that space waaaaay more useable. They are constantly having to put tents up there.! And glad to hear about the ground floor re-do as well. There is certainly more space to be had there, the admin area certainly has un-used space... so much so that
5x7 spills back there!
