Interesting location for a Denver Park is all I've got to say.

Not really that interesting. It's probably named after Denver, CO, especially once you consider there is 1. a Denver Street there, 2. Memphis really doesn't have the street grid we have out here, and 3. Zillow reports that houses on the street stem from the 1950s. Plus we do the same thing here.

What was the reasoning behind demolishing instead of redeveloping? Was it not structurally sound? Seemed like it would have been a great affordable apartment building at the appropriate scale to the surrounding apartment towers.

Well, it wasn't for biohazards in the building.

I currently live only a few blocks away from this.

I do have to say that this is quite an elegant building. There is some merit to it being saved rather than razed.

However, this building sits in the middle of a lot of parking lot, and the parking seems to be at least 5 times or more the amount of area as is the footprint of the building itself....... and it's so much more the parking surrounding this building that makes the whole of the site more unappealing than appealing.

Now, whether or not the the proposed 5 story structure that is planned to occupy this site will be an improvement over the razed structure will be an improvement..... probably not, since the to-be-razed structure itself does have an impression that it makes. But overall, the site will ultimately be improved since the massive parking lot will mostly disappear, and with that..... maybe it's best that development happen here as the whole of the site itself will improve.

Although.... it seems that more than likely changes will happen with me and most likely I won't be as near to see a finished result..... I'll have to depend on pix......

And the video I posted on DI... We captured it at normal, half, and quarter speed. Of course I had fun editing it so I blew the building up at normal speed, reversed it so it was standing again, blew it up at half speed, etc etc.
