As I mentioned I know the address is wrong but Square on Fifth doesn't have 14,000 SF of retail. I also remember reading that the board of regents approved funding to build new dorms for Tech and UGA next year.

Edit: The GSU dorm that is under construction has 20,000 SF of retail.

^It's possible, but I doubt a GT dorm would have 14K sqft retail, coincidentally the exact number of "apartments" as Square on Fifth, and be accidentally labeled with the wrong address. But that lot is prime, and I would love to see something with that amount of retail and apartments built there!

The land disturbance permit for 22 14th Street is now "ready to issue" so we may see yet another tower break ground in next few months.

Third & Urban to redevelop SweetWater Design District

http://www.bizjournals.com/atlanta/news/2015/08/21/developers-target-intown-warehouse-area.html

Quote:
Two young Atlanta developers want to take a pocket of intown industrial buildings by Interstate 85 and convert it to a hip community of media and technology companies and chef-driven restaurants — the latest adaptive reuse project for a city best-known for its glass office towers.

Third & Urban, with capital partner J.P. Morgan Asset Management, is buying warehouses along Armour and Ottley drives, an area referred to as the Sweetwater Design District. Atlanta’s largest craft brewery, Sweetwater Brewing Co., is the centerpiece of that district.

Good to hear but its still a relatively slow moving project considering how long it has been in the process. This will be HUGE for downtown.

Does anyone know what is going on with the parking lots and the foundations of former buildings across from St. Luke's on Peachtree? They are tearing them up for some reason. Here's a picture I took of it last week from the Civic Center MARTA station.

I was wondering the same thing but since I've heard absolutely nothing about this site, I'm worried that they're just renovating the parking lot and making it bigger/flatter.

Maybe it's a new extension for Peachtree Pine?

In ATL Magazine Reed said he will be housing them across the city, not in a single location. ala the Imperial Hotel which is one of the types of shelters he wants to do where 20-30 homeless are in a particular location and getting more personalized assistance and a better chance at breaking the cycle and becoming productive again.

David Marvin expands his hotel holdings downtown

http://www.bizjournals.com/atlanta/print...expands-his-hotel-holdings-downtown.html

The plan for the hotel adjoining the Hilton Garden Inn is now to include a 150-room Homewood Suites and a 150-room Canopy by Hilton - no apartments. Legacy has also acquired the Doubletree Hotel, which will undergo a renovation, and is bidding to develop the GWCC hotel.

Seems like I remember reading years ago that I.M. Pei had designed some big tower for the Rooms to Go site.

I guess that gets filed under "Big Atlanta ideas that will never see the light of day."

I just noticed this sentence. There is not a parking deck on that block. I wonder if this means they will build a deck for this tower and another tower or some sort of phase 2 that is yet to come.

$40 million boutique hotel planned along Beltline

http://www.bizjournals.com/atlanta/print...utique-hotel-planned-along-beltline.html

Quote:
A roughly $40 million boutique hotel could rise in Old Fourth Ward along the Atlanta Beltline’s Eastside Trail, a project inspired by hotels found along the High Line in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District.

The 140-room hotel is being planned on an existing parking lot at the Studioplex development.
