It's nice.

I'm still wondering why Bass pro shop took over Crystal Palace, and the hotel instead of Taking the land off Lewisville right behind the Best Western, there was as big of land, and they could have built to suite instead of trying to fit in an already existing building...

1)- Do you have any information that BPS was actually considering this land? Back when the BPS rumour was first floated, there were about 4-5 parcels of land in the metro area that were bandied about by forumers as possible locations for the store, but never this one..........
2)- I'm sure BPS likes the idea of being affiliated with Champlain Place, one of the top three malls in the Maritimes, and the prime retail centre for NB/PEI
3)- Cadillac Fairview obviously wanted out of the amusement park business, and probably made BPS a good offer on Crystal Palace.
4)- Despite the extensiveness of the renovations to Crystal Palace, it's probably still cheaper than building new.
5)- BPS is not afraid of doing conversions, and in some ways embraces the concept. In fact, by not having "cookie cutter" stores, they actually promote the concept of having their stores as retail tourism destinations.

Check out this conversion in Memphis, Tennessee:

For The city I am happy to see that Bass Pro decided to set up shope here as I said before and I hope that they can draw more store options in the mall. And Now with the low Canadian dollar I think it will bring in more tourists from Maine and other areas.

But I cant wait to see the finished product!!

I appreciate the argument about space limitations preventing a lot of landscaping in front of the store. If BPS is as popular as we anticipate it will be, parking will be at a premium as is.

There could be an opportunity however to add some interesting features if BPS were willing to think outside the box. Specifically, the land bordering the property adjacent to the traffic circle is essentially "wetland" as is. Perhaps a couple of wildlife viewing platforms and landscaping could be added here. Just a thought.....

The conversion of Future Shop to Best Buy is nearly complete.

Here is their new livery:

The new look is kinda underwhelming as far as I'm concerned. In addition, the new in store layout could be better and there isn't much stock on the shelves. I presume this is just because of the conversion process, and that stock will improve, especially as the holiday shopping season approaches, but still, I'm somewhat disappointed at present........

The construction barrier around the new Sport Chek location at the Northwest Centre has been removed. The signage has not been installed yet, but this is what the new facade will look like:

Very black looking. I'm sure the signage will liven it up a bit when it is installed.......

DSW had there private by invitation red carpet opening today. The parking lot was packed. They had a red carpet rolled out with a doorman welcoming their guest.

Lindt was interested in an NB location (likely Champlain Place). I got this information from the Think Retail website, but that particular reference has since been removed from the page. Perhaps they changed their mind.......

Cant wait to see it finished and hope after that they get to renovate the crowded store in the Champlain Place mall.

The Smart Set location at Wheeler Park is now closed. The location at Champlain Place is still going strong (for now). I imagine it will close too after Christmas.

It is amazing what some people will do for a free gift card. I understand DSW gave away $50 gift cards to the first 200 people.

The faux log and weathered shingle exterior cladding is now being applied to the facade of Bass Pro Shops. The place should look a lot different by this time next week.

I'm told by a very reliable person that they now plan to open in October.
Better to get it done right than to get it done rushed, IMHO.

Also, I saw another job posting reference last night for Pennington's at Wheeler Park. I'm now convinced that Pennington's will be taking over the vacated Smart Set location........
