Given its shape size and location . . .
This is certainly a unique and refreshing building . . .
It's zig-zaggy vertical facades are really nice . . .
the skin on the warped-sloped southwest plane around the central hole -
looks kinda weird . . . but its "silverishness" . . .
will industrialize the look - which could be very cool . . .

His building at the Trade Center site is not so cool . . .
Given its shape size and location . . .

How does the sloped surface look in person? In some shots it's bright white, in others dark grey. Is it mostly reflective?

the north and east sides of 624 W.57th = impeccable 3D wallpaper . . .
the south-west sloped side configuration view looks kinda busy . .
I really liked it much better as a totally unfinished skeleton . . .
with the orange netting of course . .
but then it wouldn't make the owners much money.

The 4 sided geometric hole in the sloping Southwest face is fascinating though . .
how one surface opens up to create others within . . .
the way it creates distinctly South and West facing courtyard wall surfaces . .
as well as the hidden North and much smaller East facing courtyard walls . . .
and a rectangular stepped courtyard-floor roof . . .

Most interesting of all - is that whacko "quadrilateral" line-edge . . .
flying in the middle of the warped Southwest facade surface . .
except - of course - when it's viewed from directly above . .
then it's very rectangular . .

I'm sure I've said something impossibly wrong about this geometry.
624 W.57th is all such an optical illusion . . .
Makes driving up that stretch of the Westside Highway so much more "stimulating" . .

I like your writing style artspook. Sort of architecture poetry one might say.

Barely visible from a mile away at Fifth Avenue, yet it still makes its mark down 58th Street as a terminus of the canyon.

This is a modern classic, one worthy of preservation by the landmarks commission in the future.

Back at you - of course - chris . .
for all your gazillion posts & pictures . .
You give some pretty cool observations . .
My fragmented fulminations aren't quite "poetry" . .
just another twist in our communal rampaging here.

this 625 W57 is rather the engaging "building-as-object" phenomenon . .
What other building in Manhattan is so purely a geometric form ? . .
excluding rectangular solids that is . . .

This is a good building to stare at while on some shrooms. That 2nd pic...

Imagine those textures just popping out! Moving up and down, changing colors from green to red back to green all while the clouds swirl like a croissant.

Some sort of intricate level 7 geometry design.

This is Ingels masterpiece.

Thank You Lecom for this video as I could replay it simply to hear the street sounds of New York over & over again!
As for this tower, I love it.

Lol at the German tourists at the end of the vid! According to their accent, they are certainly not from Austria.

Drone video documents construction progress at BIG's new york courtscraper

Philip Stevens
September 14, 2015

Quote:
a new drone video released by creative agency darkhorse has revealed the scale of what will be bjarke ingels’ first realized building in new york. officially titled ‘via 57 west’, the building stands at 450 feet (137 meters) and is scheduled to complete later this year. located along manhattan’s west side highway, the residential project has been dubbed the ‘courtscraper’, based on its typological fusion of a european perimeter block and a traditional new york high rise.
