I think that "field house" is clearly a euphemism for new stadium for the Stampeders. Also, Calgary radio is reporting that the new stadium will be capable of hosting MLS games and that Flames ownership group intend to pursue an MLS franchise.

Great news for Moncton!! I was in downtown Moncton yesterday and what an empty landscape what Highfield Square was!

I feel like Calgary is going to 1 up Edmonton big time with a new Stadium. My fear is that Calgary is going for an MLS team, And probably has a Shot at getting one with a roofed stadium. Edmonton won't get one regardless but especially with the inadequate facilities. Edmonton FC once asked for a new 100M Stadium. City council Didn't rule it out but wanted the Soccer team to prove It's attendance needs first. If the City is going to throw around the Idea of a 100M Stadium in the future for soccer the Eskimos should get involved. This all should be timed for a world cup bid. Commonwealth is a great stadium but in 20 years from now I can see Edmonton getting overlooked for bigger events because of the venue itself. Especially when you have Mosiac,IGF,BC place and a new building in Calgary. you become the black sheep in western Canada. Lets be realistic here would Commonwealth be acceptable for a Men's WC bid? No...not in it's current seating set up and Not without 100's of Millions in investments ..in that case building a new Stadium becomes best choice. I'm obviously talking 10-15 years from now but I just think Commonwealth is starting to Show it's (Design) age. Could it last another 50 years? Who knows, probably but I just don't think It's good for the CFL any more I went to a game a few weeks ago and it was just so bland. 30k+ in that stadium is boring. Ive seen better atmospheres in junior B hockey arenas

I doubt that Edmonton will be in any rush to replace Commonwealth. It meets the needs of the Eskimos (unlike Toronto where football fans have been fed up with Skydome for a good 10-15 years) and it helps that city draw major events owing to the stadium's size... it's also not apparent to me why it wouldn't be a cornerstone of any potential World Cup bid either. I could see it lasting at least another 25 years... although 50 is probably stretching it.

I know it's tiny in comparison to some of these projects, but Moncton, NB just got through the last green-light for it's proposed 9,000-10,000 seat arena/entertainment-center downtown.

That's basically what I'm saying. I know the building isn't crumbling but in 10-15 years from now I could see the Eskimos looking for something more modern with more revenue generating tools. I love commonwealth It's A beautiful building but It's quickly falling behind.

Okay how so? I'm not dismissing it I'm just curious on why you're are saying that? I'm not being ignorant to Edmonton I love that city I live right near it both my parents are there.But in the end Calgary has a better shot at an MLS team, Commonwealth will be the worst stadium in western Canada (That speaks more about how far our country has come than it does commonwealth). The world cup would never be played there in it's current condition. And the stadium itself cant generate the same revenues a new stadium would. I'm not exactly sure what your going off about but I would appreciate an explanation.

And I'm suggesting it as part of a world cup bid. It's no surprise that Commonwealth half empty is a terrible game atmosphere I got to every bombers game in Edmonton and the eskis almost always walk over Winnipeg and it's never loud or crazy and esk fans are some of the best in the league and that starts and ends with commonwealths design.

I said pushing If they started constuction in 15 years they would move out of a 56 year old building. And either way even at 50 years how that puts me in Atlanta mindset is beyond me. That's great use out of a stadium.

they will never build a rink better than rogers. The stadium is the one up.

^ Easy to go overboard when someone else is picking up the tab. Calgary's council won't be as easily cowed as Edmonton's was.
