I know pointing out technical errors is a beloved pastime around here, but come on, when it comes to capital improvements the MTS Centre is basically a single tenant arena even though, yes, the Manitoba Moose will exist. The scoreboard is being customized for the Jets only, because who knows if the Moose will even be here in 5 years?

Unlike other shared arena situations there is no tension whatsoever because the Jets are the parent club for the Moose... the vast majority of Moose fans attending games will be Jets fans too, so no one's nose will be out of joint if there is no snorting Moose featured on the scoreboard's frame.

Still idiotic that perfectly good baseball and football stadiums are being abandoned after only 20 years, and they're looking at doing the same thing with the arena.
It honestly makes me laugh that they are calling Phillips inadequate. Atlanta is a joke and If I was a tax payer I would be absolutely Furious

Not only that but The moose at MTS was hardly an idea when they had designed the scoreboard. People cant understand the difference between the Jets/moose and the bulls/Blackhawks.

But the most frustrating part of this is I never even said that MTS was a single tenant arena. Nor implied it nor grouped it in that category.

I guess if the politicians there have spines like boiled spaghetti and keep saying yes to every proposal for a new publicly-funded sports facility that comes their way, then it's no surprise that the owners keep insisting their 15 or 20 year old facilities are due for replacement.

Oh well, at least they aren't dumping the money into schools or hospitals because that would be communism.

Won't be long till Atlanta united FC insists they need a new Soccer specific Stadium because the turf is a weird shade of green

I'm still surprised that the trusses started going in before the risers were finished. Under the trusses, there are still huge gaps where there should be cement. Is there any reason why those haven't been filled in?

I suspect because these columns aren't under much horizontal load force yet as the cantilever portions of the roof trusses have yet to be installed. With mostly vertical forces the steel column unsupported by concrete will be sufficient to hold up the base of the trusses. They are putting up forms that will be filled with concrete as we speak.

It is certainly quite a different look and it can only get better!

Some big news happening in Calgary next week. Season ticket holders just got this letter:

It is a great time to be a sports fan and live in this wonderful and vibrant city of Calgary. We would like to share a proposal for a project that will make all Calgarians and Albertans proud.

This has the potential to be one of Calgary's most transformative projects at a vital time in our city's history.

This will be our first public discussion on this project and it is important that you be among the first to know.

On August 18, we will be hosting an information session to present the high level scope of the project including a preview of CalgaryNEXT.

This is not a formal launch of the project, but it is an opportunity for us to share what has been done to date and introduce our vision for the future.

Please confirm your attendance and since space is limited, please RSVP by 12 noon on Friday, August 14. We hope you can join us.

"This is not a formal launch of the project"
...that statement does bother me slightly as it hints that it might not officially happen for quite a while but still - at least we're finally going to hear SOMETHING!

Is this going to involve Ken King standing at a lectern, confirming that yes, there is still in fact a proposal for a new professional sports venue or venues that is being worked on?

Just kidding, fingers crossed for good news!

The announcement has been scheduled for the "end of this month" for months now. If this keeps going, Calgarians will have to start keeping time like they do on Usenet.

I probably should have waited and posted actual renderings here instead of that announcement, in order to avoid all the (justified mind you) Ken King-isms.

I think they should hang Ken King upside down from the Saddledome scoreboard until he coughs up all the details.

That says it all.

This is nothing more than Showing off some artist renditions of what "could be" to Hype up Calgarian Sports fan to get them on their side so they will go to bat for them at city council meeting's. Get ready for a 10-15 year battle. They Clearly have no Idea how this is going to be paid for

Moncton city council has just voted to approve construction of a new $107M downtown arena and events centre complex on the site of the old Highfield Square shopping centre on Main Street. Seating capacity will be 9,088 for sporting events and up to 10,500 for concerts (with floor seating).

The events centre will be the home of the Moncton Wildcats of the QMJHL and the Moncton Miracles of the NBL (Canada). It will be an important venue for concerts as well, and in combination with Harbour Station in Saint John and ScotiaBank Place in Halifax, will allow for an eastern Canada loop for concert promoters to schedule major acts.
