^ I highly doubt the Yellow Dog is going anywhere. They have grown over the years and they do a pretty decent weekday lunch business. Evenings can be hot or cold, but I've been in there when it's packed so it can still draw a crowd.

When they first opened I remember wondering how they'd stay in business given the unconventional (for a pub) location, but considering they've made it this far, through times when there were fewer people in the area, they must be in half-decent shape.

Checked their Instagram pictures and it looks like they watched an episode of Income Property to give them tips.

Agreed, the Yellow Dog does a great business. At the very least they pretty much always have the bar side full. ANY MTS or Burt events they fill, and it's just a good, popular place to go for casual beers. I could see it being slow during Fringe though and summer weekends though - but most places are.

No idea, I haven't actually been in there. Does anybody know who actually owns that place?

I find it to be an "easy" bar to go to. Walk in, beer, pay, go. Just like the Black Swan.

The guy that owns it is a peach too. If it is the same guy, he wasn't there last night.

I dunno... a good cocktail can make me want to forgive poor design choices. And besides, like with so many other things, it might look better at night when the lights are low and you've had a couple of drinks

Not sure if right thread, but was driving on Henderson/Disraeli, and noticed a new building by those unique waterfront box condos. For lack of abetter description, it looked like a UFO shape on stilts. Anyone know whats going up?

We talked about it a little while ago and it's actually happening: City and Downtown BIZ are going to be putting some money into sprucing up Chinatown. More info coming closer to the Chinatown Festival, but it's good news. They'll also be "promoting area restaurants" and are adding a Chinese food tour to the walking tour options.

So I found the list of facades being redone in the CV website... Some of them look to be brand new (ie: LoftWorks on James) so I'm not sure if they just combined the new ones with the ones they did last year... but here's the list:

Exciting news that clears up some questions: The building beside the Galpern/Porter condos (Coyote Cafe) is going to become the HQ of Dogwood Coffee Canada — a project Nils and Vanessa from Parlour/Little Sister are doing in tandem with Dogwood in Minneapolis. It will have offices, roasting facilities, a cafe, a cocktail lounge and an event space/gallery. Sounds like an awesome project and excited to see if the coffee revolution continues to spread here.

That's crazy. Why not put the roasting facility in a suburban strip mall or in an industrial area and pay 1/10 of the rent?

There is a small coffee roaster on Dufferin for example that has been there for years.

I would think that it's more of a lounge/café/event space with a roasting facility attached... in the same manner as a brewpub where the "brewery" is basically an interesting add-on to a pub.

Black Pearl is great, but I doubt that a lounge, gallery and café in their current location would draw all that many patrons.
