I agree. In China, one way to handle illegally parked cars is to push them with an excavator. Chinese do not play around and when it comes to towers, they are on top of things, and quick too! Some projects in L.A. funded by the Chinese moved so quickly from proposal to steel.

Also, I am not making up the excavator part:

Excavator pushes cars: http://www.autoblog.com/2015/06/01/excavator-china-bashes-bmw-jeep-video/

And if that means piling through walls of NIMBYS, by all means do so (With the Song by Ludacris "Move Bitch (Get Out the Way)" playing on a loudspeaker.

The only question is whether this will be a mere supertall or something to really stand out.
I hope its something that will stand out. Location is impeccable for a great design. Hope they push it to the limit in terms of design, and height.

Good point VG! @Chris -- that excavator clip is hilarious lol

From Forbes:

China Billionaire Lu Zhiqiang's Oceanwide To Pay $390 Mln For New York Real Estate

8/06/2015

Quote:
Oceanwide would buy properties at 80 South Street and 163 Front Street in New York, according to an announcement on Wednesday after the close of trade. Its shares rose by 1.7% in Hong Kong on Thursday.

China Oceanwide Holdings is a 59%-owned subsidiary of Shenzhen-listed property developer Oceanwide Holdings, which in turn is controlled by Lu. Oceanwide in recent years has already acquired Fig Central in Los Angeles, as well as a First & Mission project, Sonoma Country Inn and a Graywood Ranch subdivision project in San Francisco.
The company owns the currently under construction 88-story Wuhan Center:

Something the likes of Ping An Finance Centre would be sweet but I might be asking to much. With its peak, would fit perfect in Gotham. Imagine how it would add to the skyline in terms of aesthetics.

If any cluster should get a future tallest to the roof (after Nordstrom), it should be Lower M..

I think we can expect something with attractive architecture. Building in New York is a big move for them and they won't be cheap! They seem to work well with SOM.

Thank you, sir. I've come to accept that on these forums, trolls from other cities can make absurd criticism of NY's projects, but New Yorkers are not allowed to comment about theirs. Que sera.

JR Ewing! Glad you can be back here to discuss the coming Era of supertalls
Hoping to see at least 400 meters on this one.
PS. what are the dimensions of this site?

Thanks, Dude.

It's not that big. I'm curious what the 400k space of commercial space refers to. I assume hotel and retail. This tower has the capacity to be outrageously tall.

The two properties bought can both be demolished:

The size of those lots combined is 14,701 square feet. Developable area is 820,000 square feet. Lets say a tower (generously) takes up a large portion of the parcel, 70%:

0.7(14,701) = 10,291 square feet

820,000/10,291 = 80 stories

50% of the parcel:

0.5(14,701) = 7,351 square feet

820,000/7,351 = 112 stories

So given a reasonably sized tower, this thing can easily soar 400m+ if so desired. And those are actual floors.

Those are some satisfying statistics for speculation. Interested to see how this turns out.
Maybe another tower reminiscent of the old gotham spires

Something i have been wondering for a while now, does the structural components in a tower (core columns etcetera) count towards the used square footage in a tower? Also what about elevators and atrium?
Thanks!

A building's gross area counts towards a property's allowable FAR, or assigned development rights, EXCEPT any mechanical space, cellar space, open balconies and elevators/stair bulkheads.
