Jesus! 168 is not safe at all on our freeways....

In Ontario, if you got pulled over at 168 you'd get a huge fine, lose your license, and have your vehicle seized and probably get a criminal charge too.

My max speed varies depending on the time of day and the traffic conditions. On average I probably do between 120-125 on most highways within the GTA. Though, admittedly, when the traffic conditions are right, it is fun to do 140 or so on the highways.

My average speed has probably diminished a little bit over the past few years, as my car has gotten older. I remember on several occasions when it was new looking down at my speedometer and being pretty surprised at just how fast I was driving.

I once drove in the high 140s from Kingston to Ottawa when I was running late for a job interview, and it was terrifying. Never again.

I don't drive at all anymore but when I did I typically stayed at 100-105. Better fuel efficiency, and I'm cheap. I stayed in the right lane, and if people couldn't pass me I would speed up. I was slow but not a dick.

Many people get a euphoric high when speeding.

I've changed that to fuel economy. When my car tells me I'm barely sipping fuel, it makes me 'feel' good the same way other people 'feel' alive when they speed.

...Then someone in front of me hits the brakes for no reason and I gotta accelerate again

How busy are the roads in the parkland abutting 175? Would it have been beneficial to build interchanges and service roads instead for an Autoroute to the Saguenay area?

It's not busy enough. The annual average daily traffic is dropping very quickly to just under 10 000 even before the Wildlife reserve.

The Route 175 was made that way for 3 reasons as far as I know :

- Encouraging Saguenay Lac-St-Jean's region developpement
- Keeping us safer from large animals + building fences where it is more problematic
- The Weather is very rude there. It can receive snow from October to May.

I take the 73 ALL the time to visit my gf's dad in Saint-Henri. This area is very plentiful in rivers, creeks, falls etc.

Quebec city is so spoiled when it comes to nature, literally surrounded by beauty on all sides.

Thanks !

You don't take the same part of it, but it's still nice, especially down to St-Georges.

Otherwise, for some specific things, I do miss Montreal. The best urban fabric in Canada, the best food, the best street level/ambiance, saw that this summer again.

But overall, I'm personally happier to live here for a long list of reasons. But here's a thing, Quebec city is an awesome compromise between Very small & Very big. Plus as you said, the region has some natural assets. I will include Charlevoix in the bunch... after all, it's our administrative region.

That said, skyscrapers is not our strenght, we will let you that, and you do it very well. But I would NEVER trade all our natural beauties for a couple more skyscrapers in Downtown Quebec. Never.

Thanks! Looks like a fantastic drive. I imagine the next section through the park and reserve land is terrific as well.

Thanks to you, mon ami

Yes it is ! The section I filmed in this video is impressive because we're getting higher and higher. But for the other section aswell, we get some terrific steep grades while we're slowly going down to Saguenay.

It is no doubt on my top 5 favourite drives in the province.

I'm also back from Ontario. I filmed many sections of the 401. I'm going to work on it on the next weeks/months and will share it with pleasure.

I would agree; Toronto drivers are actually very courteous. The biggest difference I have noticed, however, is their respect for pedestrians. Never in my life have I felt as a pedestrian that I am respected by drivers.

After a month of living in Toronto and working downtown, I can honestly say that as a pedestrian, I feel far safer here than I ever did in Kingston, where I regularly was almost hit by drivers who didn't respect red lights or pedestrian right of way.

in completely unposted news, the last of the Calgary ring road has now been funded, scheduled for completion in 2022. It features what is possibly the most absurdly large central median on the planet. It seriously looks like they are planning for the widest highway on the planet in the future, and the road is going to be built as 8 lanes initially, with room for what looks like an extra 20.

Looks like they're planning for a future collector/express system looking at how they rendered the bridges and support columns

Is that new section going to be 4 lanes? What are traffic volumes like beyond Riviere-du-Loup, worthy of twinning?

I believe that is because they have to plan to accommodate a second ring road (ultra long term) in that ROW as well, as any second ring road gets cut off by Tsuu T'ina. Why they wouldn't use Highway 22 for such instead, I don't know.

Highway 22 also cuts through the reserve.

and the corridor is only 30 m wide.

I remember how long and how tough it was just to have that section upgraded with shoulders. Don't expect it to get an extra lane any time.
